The Rheinisches Schiefergebirge is a low mountain range in western Germany, eastern Belgium and northeastern France.
The Rheinisches Schiefergebirge extends from the Belgian and French Ardennes into the German Eifel and over the Rhine into the Sauerland. The Mosel and Hunsrück hills form it's southwestern part, the Westerwald, Lahn-Dill area and the Taunus occupy the southeastern part. The Schiefergebirge is divided by the Middle Rhine Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage area.
The Rheinisches Schiefergebirge is part of the Rhenohercynian, a part of the Mid-european Variscides.
