I have put The West Wing article up as a candidate for featured article status. Your input and support in the FAC located here would be appreciated! Thanks! -Scm83x 08:55, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
- Dealt with some of your requests (others may have been dealt with by other members). I added correct copyright data and fair use justifications for all images in the article, but I can't find any foreign reviews of The West Wing... Staxringold 21:55, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
- Man EXCELLENT work with a spoken article addition. I'm on a school computer (which can't play oggs) but I'm sure it's great. I may end up moving the spoken article box further up so people see it before reading all the way through, but very nice! Staxringold 12:54, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

I didn't even know (though I probably could have guessed) that there was some sort of acknowledgement system on wikipedia. I'm happy to have gotten a star. Thanks!--Mike Selinker 17:07, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Category links
Hey RG, I saw your post at WP:CFD and wanted to let you know: to create a text link to a category (or image) insert a colon at the start of the link: [[:Category:People]] creates Category:People. When you just insert a link to a category without the colon, it think you are trying to add the article to the category and the link doesn't appear. Hope this helps. Christopher Parham (talk) 16:29, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Merit Badge Article
RG2, I like the Eagle Scout template you made and added it to my own user page. My son is an Eagle too and is still a youth in Scouts. I also love your concrete suggestions on my MB article. They are specific, balanced (not too one sided), and workable. I also feel most of the others who have or will comment on the FAC can eventually agree to them once made--here, I'm separately the wheat from the chaff on the FAC page. My FAC has only been up 1 1/2 days and it has a slew of input. I find this quite interesting.
One question--Someone has been editing the comments on the FAC page for the "Prostitution in the People's Republic of China" article; probably because it's had tons of input. This has made me think: Since I want to concentrate on your suggestions, should I leave my article's FAC page as is, edit it, or what?Rlevse 13:32, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
I guess my FAC page is going to get pretty long. JohnDBuell is helping work on the page and I like his work. I am confident if he, you, and I work together, we can get it to FA. Rlevse 14:46, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
JohnDBuell and I agreed to take the FAC out. I archived the FAC too. We're going to work on it, change the name to "Merit badge design history (BSA)", and resubmit it after we finish your suggestions. I'll ask for your input from time to time if that's okay. Rlevse 16:17, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
Hi: I think we've addressed all of your points but the bulleted lists. I'm sure some of what we did needs more tweaking though. When you get time from studying-;), could you look the article over in general, but specifically suggest what would be good to do with the lists. Many of the lists are complete sentences, but I am not sure what to do with them: remove bullet mark on the left, make each line a separate paragraph, etc. I'd appreciate suggestions. Thanks. Rlevse 15:33, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Merit Badge Article un-bullet test
HI: Please see the last note in 'merit badge article' thread here one your talk page if you haven't seen it already. I thought of something that might work with un-bulleting this article's bullets. As a test, I've only changed the "badge history" section. I took out the bullets, made a sub-sub section, called it "Examples of merit badge changes", and made it more prosy. I'd appreciate knowing what you think of it and the state of the article as is. If this change to the bullets looks, good, I'll go ahead and change the rest of them. Yes, you're right. I used to have those dates off pat, but my mind must have slipped a cog, I was thinking 1701 instead of 1801. Previous links should go to Kingdom of England, back to 927. [edit] Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rasor Elementary School
Please never strike or otherwise edit another user's comments (except in extreme cases of vandalism or personal attacks). Simply place a small comment under their votes/comments for the admin. You may also add a comment to the AFD talk page, and the user/ip's talk page. All admins already know to discount anon votes anyhow, and of course know to discount blatant double voting. --Rob 13:10, 25 December 2005 (UTC)
- Is blatant double voting from an anonymous IP not a form of vandalism in itself? In Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines, under "Behavior that is unacceptable on Wikipedia," it simply states, "Don't misrepresent other people". What I did was not a grammatical change or the fixing of a typo, and I was hardly misrepresenting what the contributor was saying. I don't feel that I violated any Wikipedia guideline in doing what I did; rather, I was fixing a form of vandalism.
- If you'll look at Wikipedia:Vandalism, you'll see that the page reads, "Vandalism is any addition, deletion, or change to content made in a deliberate attempt to compromise the integrity of the encyclopedia." I looked through "Types of vandalism," and all I could find relating to my actions read as follows, "Editing signed comments by another user to substantially change their meaning (e.g. turning someone's vote around)" I did not turn anyone's vote around.
- Of course, we then bring up the issue of biting the newbies. Likely, it was not blatant and intentional vandalism. Wikipedia:Vandalism even explicity says that something of this nature, "is not vandalism!" However, if someone is to blank an article, in practical terms, are we to consider it vandalism and revert it? Of course!
- I didn't change or modify any of the meat of his argument. I obviously did not agree with his vote, and you obviously don't agree with mine. Regardless, I welcomed the anonymous IP's comments, and responded with my own in turn. However, I think what I did has not been definitively prohibited or allowed by any Wikipedia guideline. As a result, I followed the Wikipedia mantra of "being bold" and fixed the section as best I could - without violating any of Wikipedia's guidelines.
- Is there a guideline I missed regarding what I did? Thanks. -RG2 20:29, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

- I guesse we need to focus on what we agree: the anons double vote is unacceptable, and *all* their votes are to be discounted. Now, if you consider their double vote vandalism, then by all means report it to Wikipedia:Vandalism in progress and put an appropriate warning on their talk page. If they repeat it, they face blocking. Such steps deal with the problem. Striking out the text accomplishes nothing. No admin would ever count such a vote. AFDs have large numbers of disqualified votes (anons, newbies, sock-pupppets, restricted-by-arbitrators, etc...). We don't strike-out all their votes. Can you explain what striking out the anons vote accomplished? We don't strike-out vandalism anyhow (we remove it).
Anyhow, I'll happily concede your actions were done in good faith, which is why I consider the matter over. Note: If I thought you had done something in bad faith I would have reverted you, but I did not.--Rob 21:05, 25 December 2005 (UTC) When I wrote the above, I didn't realize you resorted to name calling. We will no longer be talking about this subject. --Rob 21:11, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

- I apologize for my comment. However, what we are now discussing to refers to CalJW's keep vote, while the matter we were discussing earlier refers to how to deal with disqualified votes and anonymous IPs. I have further arguments to support what I did reagrding the anonymous votes, but will not mention them now. However, if you would like to follow WP:CIVIL and "Ignore incivility. Operate as if the offender does not exist. Set up a "wall" between the offender and the community.," I will understand and consider the matter closed as well. I hope, though, that this one-time slip of my tongue (or, is it fingers?) doesn't get in the way of any real debate. Happy holidays. -RG2 21:34, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

- Since there's been no response, I'll call this discussion closed, then, with my conclusions as follows:
- Regarding the original issue: I think we can agree that the anonymous vote was unacceptable. I have seen and heard suggested the ignoring of disqualified votes, the moving of disqualified votes to a "sockpuppet" subsection, and the striking of disqualified votes - all from various administrators. There is no conclusive Wikipedia policy, and, therefore, there is no wrongdoing you can accuse me of here.
- Regarding the latter issue: I do not appreciate your insinuation that my actions were done in bad faith. I do not appreciate your closure of the previous discussion based on this completely separate and unrelated issue. -RG2 23:17, 25 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Diacritics
I'm not exactly sure about it. I just know when my friend made some Japanese pages and used the fansubber styled transliteration he was told to use a more scholarly version. If the word has common English usage that came from other than direct (Arabic in the case of mosque) transliteration then the common word should be used. For like Mosque... should have any diacrtics since it's an English word whereas Masjid should... well, if it had any it should. A good guide I belive is Britannica... it uses diacritics for certain words and we can follow their basic system. Scholarly writing uses it as well... if you read Fazlur Rahman he will use diacritics... but more pedestrian works won't. I don't know of any policy but to make an article a featured article it should have it. There are definitely sticky cases... like Muhammad really deserves a dot under the H but that's less common than macron. So... I'm not fully sure but we should have some system... there might be something about it in Arabic translation. gren グレン 00:46, 26 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] MB fac
Two issues relating to layout. See the FAC and article about how & why I put the MB name in the top bar of the tables. Also, you may want to take a look at this: Merit badge types (BSA)/temp. The user who submitted it talks about it on Merit badge types (BSA) talk page under "writing style". If I do use it, I'd put the background one column to the left. Let me know what you think of this and any other issues you have remaining. I really do appreciate all your help. Rlevse 14:33, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
- I went ahead and moved stricken issues in the FAC to its own subpage; that FAC page has had an enormous amount of input in such a short time that it's going to become impossible to read soon. I'll be recommenting soon. -RG2 16:37, 30 December 2005 (UTC)
I've restructed the tables. Here's what I see is left to be done per the current FAC: a) you said after the re-tabling, you'd like to look over wording, grammar, etc. This is a good time as breaking up the description caused some flux. Maybe it's swing Tony over too. b) I've fixed Nixie's objections, but he hasn't changed his vote yet; except we need to do the re-naming, which we all seem to agree on. Once re re-name it, I guess we can only wait. c) I've fixed Tuf-Kat's objections and notified him, but he hasn't changed his vote either. I guess we can only wait. d) Tony keeps saying he has lots of prose objections (I've noticed he ALWAYS objects to a FAC and it's ALWAYS about prose--I have not yet seen him support a FAC, but that's another story-;)), but he has only told me part of the specifics. I'm sorry, but I can't read his mind and I'm not sure what to do about it. At least this FAC is going much better than the first one--hehe.--Rlevse 21:28, 31 December 2005 (UTC) PS, when he does provide specifics, they're very good. Rlevse 01:59, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
See new FAC objection by Tsavage. His objections go to the core of the article and would fundamently change it. Perhaps you could respond and placate him. I don't think merely removing the Errors section would satisfy him. Right now I do not see a way to satisfy him and everyone else. Rlevse 00:41, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
- EXCELLENT retort to to Tsavage. Many thanks. Could I ask you to write the clearer lead? It appears to me you have a better grasp of what he's looking for than I do. Rlevse 01:59, 1 January 2006 (UTC)
I'm posting a copy of the comment I just left for Rlevse on his talk page, just because I want to be sure you see it too :) We may want to re-reconsider using Merit Badge Design History (BSA) as an article title, and one of the sections could be "Collecting different generations of merit badges" - I think this would meet some of the objections for clarifying what the article actually IS or ISN'T about. Just my $0.02. And Happy New Year! --JohnDBuell 03:12, 1 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I understand you're a busy college student, but I just wanted to touch base with you and see what your current thoughts on this FAC are and if you still plan to do the copyedit. I edited your newly created Merit badge (Boy Scouts of America) and somehow ACCIDENTLY wiped out your edits (see its history). I am really sorry; I'm not sure how I let that happen. [edit] Blanking
Normally RG2, I would accept the apology about reverteing my talk page. However, even though it may be sincere, I feel you just wanted to let me know you're out there. Let me put a few things in perspective for you about the Charles Whitman site. First, I am not looking to suck up to an article because I want to be an administrator or anything else but a corrector of the history of Charles Whitman and Houston McCoy. I understand, as has been stated before, that WP is not interested in the truth, just verifiable resources. Verifiable resources can contain errors, omissions and mistakes. Yet WP allows this as long as it is verifiable. I am not against verifying because I do it myself. Not for one persons opinion but for everyone's opinion and I reduce it down to the facts as they are presented. I'm talking facts, not opinions. hyperbole or anything other than the facts. I don't reason well with eyewitnesses because they can be the worst source for getting the facts. My involvement with Houston McCoy, was done in exactly that manner. I helped him because he needed it. Not because I wanted his story. In my search for the facts, I had to get every document and source I could from every available source to come to my conclusions, and I feel my conclusions are correct based on the facts. A lot of WPians, especially from the UT area feel I am trying to expose and blame UT for the Whitman incident. That would be partially true. Others think I am out to harm Matinez, that is incorrect, I interviewed Martinez and found his story didn't add up according to all the documents I have and interviews with those involved in the incident. I used to live in Austin and I really want to return there because I like Austin and the Hill Country and the weather. Austin as a city is great. I like the University of Texas and find it to be among the best campuses I have ever been on. But the politics and prejudices in Austin have to be tolerated. My main goal is to get the University to admit it dropped the ball when it came to Charles Whitman and the treatment of Houston McCoy. I could use numerous anedotes to explain why, but why bother. All I'm asking is that it be understood that my intentions are not against anybody or anything except the truth: regardless of WP's policies on the truth, or Texans assumption that I am out to harm the University. I'm not, that's why I blank my user page.subwayjack 22:59, 28 January 2006 (UTC)S
- I originally reverted because of existing precedent to previous blanking reversion to blankings (Yamamoto Ichiro and Kuru), and reverted my changes after mulling over the policy at Wikipedia:Talk pages. You'll notice that, before your personal attacks and nasty e-mails to Woohookitty, Katefan0, and myself, and your subsequent block, I had made two edits to Charles Whitman:
- The reversion of your changes on 11 December 2005 for your violation of 3RR, which you were blocked for by Katefan0.
- The removal of an eBay link, which was an improper way to get your citation out there, and the subsequent 3RR violation which you were blocked for by Curps.
- My third edit was last night's "Wikification." I'd like to ask you to Assume Good Faith, and stop reading so much into everything. Frankly, I'm insulted at your accusation that I'm here just to suck up to administrators or that I'm here to POV-push and get your attention, and am still insulted by your nasty e-mails, which included references to beastiality and racism - I was only here to "wikify," and revert changes after your breaking of policy. -RG2 TALK 23:34, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
- Alright, calm down! You hold a grudge too long and you might end up on the tower! I apologize for some innuendos but I never meant to imply that you were "sucking up". Also, users can blank their own pages.subwayjack 01:00, 29 January 2006 (UTC)S
-
- I've been holding a grudge for a long time? I made a mistake this afternoon that I quickly reverted, and you suddenly left a message falsely tying that mistake to supposed POV-pushing in my valid reversions to Charles Whitman months ago. [edit] Category war
Glad you like the portal! Please consider going to Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion#Category:Boy_Scouts_of_America_controversy_and_Category:Boy_Scouts_of_America_controversies_to_.28he_didn.27t_say_what.29 and voting on this (we want delete) and the "Contentious issues" listing right below it (we want keep). There are constant edit wars on the "Controversies about..." article, so I don't really worry about it, but I would like to keep the contentious issues grouped together in the project as they relate to Scouting. [edit] Regarding image use from Scratchspin.com
I saw a few possibly improperly used images, and know that you're pretty knowledgeable about image copyright, so I was wondering if you had to time to check out the inline photos at Michelle Kwan and Scott Hamilton. It uses images from Scratchspin.com that are posted through the use of a template at Template:ScratchspinImg, which is further described at Wikipedia:Scratchspin images. The intrusive copyright text within the articles doesn't look good, and is blatant advertising. I haven't seen precedent for this.
These images have subsequently been tagged fair use, but I wanted to just list the template and Wikipedia page for deletion. I don't believe that Wikipedia supports this kind of image use. What do you think? — RG2 talk 02:12, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
- The terms of use on that site restrict re-use too much. In particular, it doesn't allow non-website use, it does not allow certain classes of commercial use, and it does not appear to allow modification of the images. I'd shoot the template and list the images for deletion -- there's nothing special about the images, so they don't qualify under Wikipedia:Fair use. --Carnildo 22:01, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Would you please remove the deletion of the two photo's I've uploaded. The new photo as Chief Joe Byrd is the same minus the organization info at the bottom. [edit] Questions
I am intrigued by the motivation behind your nomination of the image in Template:User former BSA for deletion.
What is your opinion on the question of whether gays should be allowed to be scouts?
Do you believe that discrimination based on sexual orientation is justified? If so, why?
I thought long and hard about my decision to disassociate myself from BSA, but in retrospect I believe it was one of the most principled decisions I have ever made. I would like to know your perspective. --James S. 08:00, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
- That's not the issue. I will say that I don't support the BSA's discrimination against gays. However, I'm a little insulted by the fact that you are possibly implying that the nomination was done in bad faith. — RG2 talk 08:03, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
-
- I am relieved to read that. I am sorry if I led you to infer that my questions implied particular answers; if I had a certain opinion about the answers, I would not have asked. --James S. 08:11, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Do you believe it was civil to open accusations against me on the adminstrators' notice boards without discussing your concerns with me first?
In any case, let's discuss those concerns now. Why do you believe that this edit is POV-pushing?
Did you read the description of the controversies, and of the student creator of the school's article who was threatened with diciplinary measures if he could not keep the article accurate, and who was subsequently banned? What do you think about that?
You say above that you don't support the BSA's discrimination against gays. Do you think that gay prospective junior high-schoolers should have the benefit of knowing that a high school which until recently allowed gay couples at their prom is no longer doing so, before making their decision on where to enroll?
What could you possibly see wrong with this edit that you thought it necessary to raise with administrators?
I am sorry that you found it hard to believe that I am acting in good faith. As I have proven, I am well within the law pertaining to Boy Scout logos. I am also not pushing a point of view. I wish you had taken the time and effort to see how much I have put into the La Salle College High School article. You might want to take a look and see. --James S. 15:51, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
-
- Do you think it was civil to question my motives and personal beliefs as the first move in my good faith image nomination? Do you think it was civil to remove all deletion tags and strike my arguments before I had a chance to respond? Do you think it was civil to add a word into a Wikipedia guideline and only label the change as a grammatical fix? You'll notice that though I had no obligation to assume good faith per your very first response, I continued to for hours. After several back-and-forth reversions on a number of pages, it was only natural for me to call in a third, neutral party to look at the issue with a level head. I didn't call for an RfC or an RfA; I just asked some experienced users to look at the issue.
- I struck the second sample edit before you posted this on my talk page, as I agreed that it was an erroneous mistake. However, do you think that stating, "I am relieved to read that," to my response to your bad faith question that, "I don't support the BSA's discrimination against gays," led me to believe that you're completely neutral? Do you really think that I hadn't seen the long list of edits to the La Salle article?
- I'm not saying that your IfD argument is wrong after your introduction of new evidence. I just wish that you'd assume good faith, though I continued to do so. — RG2 talk 16:36, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
Thank you so much for withdrawing the {{ifd}} tag.
I'm sorry I questioned your motivations, but I honestly wasn't trying to imply they were wrong, I just wanted to know. Everything else was fallout from that, I suppose.
If I came off as awkward or rude or mean-spirited, I'm sorry. This was the first time that any of my images have ever been nominated for deletion. I've seen so many *fDs go the wrong way that I got a little defensive. I was not trying to imply that you were bigoted, but I was trying to find out. It seems from your edit history that you are a gentleman. I am sorry we didn't meet on better terms. --James S. 17:19, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
- I appreciate these words, and can sympathize with what seems a natural response to deletion nominations. I've seen the debate about this userbox, and know that tensions run high on both sides. I think that this discussion, overall, has helped Wikipedia as a whole, as most people (myself included) weren't aware of the trademark clauses you mentioned you eventually presented. Regardless, I suppose my participation in deletion discussions is going to give me a heart attack before I reach 25! Hope to work with you in the future on better terms, as well. — RG2 talk 17:32, 9 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:--ScoutsChris3.jpg
Okay, here's the information, if there are other questions I will answer them so you can get this used as you need. 1) This is a backpatch from my personal collection. It is from the Boy Scouts of Canada (now renamed Scouts Canada), and has not been their logo since at least 1967 (39 years by my count, which was why I used it thus).
2) I scanned and modified this myself in December 2004.
3) The reason it was used above others was that it is nondescript as to nationality, there is no national device or ornamentation except for the English-language "Be Prepared" scroll at the bottom.
4) My belief is that if you were to further modify this by removing the rocker, then it would be a logo that was never used in any form by any previous organization, and thus might count as free under Wikipedia guidelines.
5) Another way, and maybe the preferable one, to modify it so that it would be 'free', would be to include the Girl Guides trefoil behind the fleur-de-lis. This would assure WP that this is a new creation, and it would have the benefit of being coed. For instance, you could use the trefoil outline from Image:-p-ISGFbadge.gif in the modification.
6) The third way to get 'free', as I can see, would be to modify the colors, like turn the stars red or something. However, do bear in mind that green-and-gold are the traditional Scouting colors picked by B-P.
- 5/6) combo-something along the lines of Image:GreenGold.jpg (I just am not that adept at Photoshop).
I'm still around, feel free to ask stuff, I just won't be a member of the Scouting project any more.

[edit] Eagle Scout Template
OK. Seems odd to me to distinguish template and user namespace, but I won't quibble with the legal folks. I suppose I should do an original drawing, place it in the public domain and we'd be good to go. Is the whole knot design a problem, or just the scanned image? [edit] RE:Images for Deletion
I've had to list a number of your images for deletion.
- Image:Strand Evening.jpg — It is a copyright violation. Wikipedia does not permit images allowed only for non-commercial use, per Jimbo's ruling.
-
- I did not upload this image. RJN 09:41, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
- Image:BW8-I45S.JPG — You labeled this with a copyrighted free use tag, which means all rights are released for all commercial and non-commercial use. That's not the case when the image is taken from a site like www.houstonfreeways.com; let me know if you are actually the owner of this site.
-
- I contacted Erik—the copyright holder, he doesn't mind that his images are used on Wikipedia or on any other sites—as long as they are not for sale. RJN 09:41, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
- Image:Reliant Stadium.jpg, Image:Rice University.JPG, Image:Texas Medical Center ariel.JPG, Image:Uptown Houston.JPG, Image:HCPA Houston.jpg, Image:Williams Waterwall Houston.jpg, Image:Houston Tranquility Park.jpg, Image:Port of Houston.jpg, Image:METRORail Houston000.JPG, Image:Texas Medical Center ariel.jpg — You labeled these with copyrighted free use tags, which means all rights are released for all commercial and non-commercial use. This is not the same as "informational purposes only." These images have no fair use rationale and will be deleted. Similar images at Wikimedia Commons have also been listed for deletion by someone else.
-
- I contacted the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau before uploading—they allow anyone to use their images for information purposes, including commercial advertisements—as long as they are not for sale. A lot of real estate brokers in Houston use images by the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau for their websites and in their advertisments—GHCVB allows this. These images are for free use by anyone, even for commercial purposes—as long as they are not for sale. Next time, can you inquire me about the images before listing them on Wikipedia:Images_and_media_for_deletion/2006_February_10? I am quite aware with copyrights law—I am a photographer myself and studied copyrights law in depth for a class in college. Anyway, thanks for your concern regarding the copyrights status of these images. RJN 09:41, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
- The problem is that the tag under the image says that anyone can use the images "for any purpose." This releases all rights — meaning that the images can be sold. Effectively, the tag says that the image would be in public domain, it if were possible to release images into the public domain in the United States. Because you said that these images "are not for sale," it effectively contradicts the license listed along with the photo.

Yeah, I'm not sure that he has been made clearly and explicitly aware of the requirements we have. Certainly, his email doesn't sound nearly explicit enough to me. But it does seem to have (begrudgingly) allowed 3d party use so, if he is also ok with commercial use and the like, then the images are ok, I guess. I think some clarity should be sought via User_talk:ed_g2s to see if another email making clear the terms he is agreeing to might be useful. -Splashtalk 22:54, 12 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Images, userboxes, etc
Take a look at Durin's edits today, especially what he did to userboxes. He's on a "fair use in userboxes" campaign. I noticed your exchange with James S. over the {{:tl:Template:User_former_BSA}}. Can you explain how it's okay to use this image and not the ones Durin removed from userboxes? It makes no sense to me whatsoever. Rlevse 19:49, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
-
- I agree that Durin thinks he's doing the right thing, but by being inconsistent, he's asking for problems. When someone does that, they need to be prepared to answer as to why. And as far as I'm concerned, he is being unfair. He's declared war on fair use tags, not examinging them, and ignoring other tags that are against Wiki policy. Anyway, I see your point; but I'm also not going to let someone do that to Scouting items and not say anything. As for the "NO BSA" symbol, I totally agree James S just spins such a web of garbage that most will not fight him on it. It's clearly a BSA logo, no matter how he wants to spin it. I actually talked to BSA lawyers when I got permission to use images in my FA and they told me BSA owns the copyrights and they're still in force. Sometimes I too am ready to throw my arms up and walk away from wiki, for similar reasons as you have. Thanks again for your help. Rlevse 23:16, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Images for deletion
Thanks for tagging images for deletion. Part of the process is notifying the uploader of the nomination so they make take action if they choose. I cannot verify that you are doing this on all occasions. With absentee uploaders, I really don't care, but in the case of Image:Rooney3.jpg and Image:EPL 26 November Mourinho.jpg, the uploaders are active and deserve a chance to save their images. I know this step is an extra pain, but it is only fair. [edit] American haters
What is the proper process to complain about userboxes done with a user's own code (not a template from a userbox page) that is POV and slams a group? Specifically, check out User:Liftarn. He's made his own "Unamerican" and "America is a police state" boxes. I highly doubt asking him to remove them will be successful. I can't find these on the userbox pages--his page has it's own code. [edit] Jonathan Sessler and Texaphyrin
Nice work on Jonathan Sessler! My recollection is that the Texaphyrin name had more of a story to it than just Sessler's appointment to UT. If you look at the image on Sessler's homepage, which I also uploaded for both articles, there are 6 atoms in the center that overlay nicely on top of a 5-pointed star. I recall this being the inspiration for the name. I have provided two sources for this also. I put the new info into the article, but then I realized in conflicts with your DYK fact. Are these references enough to make your comfortabel with these origins to the name? I don't want to update the DYK fact without discussing it with you. Johntex\talk 04:47, 16 March 2006 (UTC)
- Hello. Thanks for the reply. You are very kind. I went to DYK but I see you already made the change. It would be great to work in the semblance to the Texas flag, but I worry it might make the bit too long. How about we dump the reference to porphyrins:
... that University of Texas at Austin professor Jonathan Sessler developed molecules called "texaphyrins," used to treat neoplastic and cardiovascular disease and named after their resemblance to the State flag of Texas?
- If the reader goes to either Sessler or texaphyrin, they will get the porphyrin bit. Johntex\talk 05:00, 16 March 2006 (UTC)

I am actually intending to rerecord the entire thing. The existing recording isn't done well at all; there are name mispronunciations, extraneous noises, and it certainly doesn't help that I did the whole thing in one sitting. However, this article has since then gone through enormous change, and I'd like to just redo the entire thing. I've been up there quite a while, but I intend on getting to it one of these days! Thanks for the nudge. — RG2 talk 10:51, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Harassment and YOU
Hi, Please stop stalking and harassing me on my talkpage. I'm asking you nicely, politely even. Please STOP. Thank you--R.D.H. (Ghost In The Machine) 04:00, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
- You have vandalized by blanking image tags time and time again without explanation. [1] [2] You have ignored requests from three separate, well-established users, not including myself, to remove fair use items from your user page in three separate incidents. [3] [4] [5] You have expressed bad faith towards, belittled, hurled false accusations at, and been completely uncivil to more than half a dozen editors dealing with image copyright issues. [6] [7] [8]. Messages in response to your breaches of policy – many of which you often wrongly dismiss as vandalism yourself – are certainly not "stalking and harass[ment]," as you continue to fail to act upon them, and, instead, blank them. [9] [10] I urge you to stop this pettiness, consider being civil, and to adhere to copyright law and Wikipedia policies. Thank you. — RG2 talk 04:40, 21 March 2006 (UTC)
- I'm thinking that the RDH situation needs to go to arbitration, I don't see that there's any use trying to reason with him, and he persists in blanking. If you know anything about getting a case going, I'll support it. Matt 00:31, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Salatinophoto.gif
I only moved this from "Image.jpg" (or something like it), when a policy I suggested was implemented. I have no idea of the copyright status, as this was a user page image of the user himself. Oh, and since I assume you're an admin, can you please fix what was mentioned here: Image talk:Logo.png. As someone else has pointed out, there are typos on that page, probably made by me when uploaded, but the page is now protected according to the policy, so I can't fix it... Greetings, --Janke | Talk 06:09, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] OSBI Forums
I just wanted to give you a heads up: The author of OSBI Forums removed your {{prod}} tag from it, so I listed it for AfD. Vslashg (talk) 09:17, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Funny edits
Sorry, I think there was something wrong with the server, I have been saving things all evening and they have been showing up much later on the watch list, or not at all. Now the whole site seems to be so slow. Appolagies. Giano | talk 21:30, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] NPOV tag
Thanks for tagging Atul Chitnis NPOV. It is pretty ironic how this article (which I have been requesting deletion of, being the subject) keeps getting tagged with one thing or the other first it is NPOV *for* the subject, now because it is NPOV *against* the subject. :) Please see the talk page for comments. —This unsigned comment was added by Achitnis (talk • contribs) .
- You may want to check the talk page of this article. An edit war is brewing, and I am going to have to call for arbitration if this persists. "Freedom" does not mean "Liberty to slander". If you feel that there is something that has to be done, please let me know. Thanks. -- Achitnis 17:55, 12 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Images
Thanks for your clairifcation on President Peter. But how come whenever I put a funny image on my userpage, some admin goes and removes it? I think they are totaly abuseing thier power. The Republican 01:56, 28 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Copyright!? (Handspring Rise)
That was me in the image. It says copyrighted to DarkFire Taker, and I`m DarkFire Taker. So, I think you misunderstood. —This unsigned comment was added by DarkFireTaker (talk • contribs) .
- Yes, but you need to specify a license. Add {{PD-self}} if you release it into the public domain. Add {{GFDL-self}} if you'd like to release it under the GNU Free Documentation License. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Free licenses for more tags. Place it on the image page, and remove the deletion notice. Thanks! — RG2 talk 02:25, 29 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Aircraft image
Look, the images you proposed for deletion are images on my talk page, right? So you don't have any rights to edite My page, understood??? A user page doens't make part of any article, so you' will not delete those image, right? I can put there what I want, it belongs to me !!! NorbertArthur 29 March 2006
- The image descriptions say that they were taken from http://www.airliners.net. When something is created in a tangible form, such as an image available at a website, it is automatically copyrighted. Therefore, we usually can't simply take images from other online sources, even if we credit them. Let me know if you have anymore questions. — RG2 talk 21:17, 29 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Translating
Hello - I feel a burning need to translate an article from the Swedish Wikipedia - it is: "Marcus Wallenberg-hallen" - is there a procedure I should follow or do I just upload it onto the English Wikipedia, when done (I would make a good job of it, before uploading)? Ballista 05:41, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
Hang-it - I've gone ahead and done it anyway - now awaiting your advice, on what to do with it. Ballista 07:25, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
Ignorance is showing here - having looked at other recently-translated pages, it looks like they just get uploaded, so I've done that for this article now. Sorry to bother you. Ballista 12:51, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Image copyright question
I got a message saying that my Tyrrell Sea image might have been a copyright violation. I got it from a book, and listed the publication info; what can I do? —This unsigned comment was added by Erimus (talk • contribs) .
- The problem is that you took the map out of a book. Since it was published in 1991, that map likely will be copyrighted for many, many more years. In order to use copyrighted images, therefore, we need to find a rationale for fair use. However, your map does not qualify under the fair use criteria that allows use when "where no free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information." It's basically a copyright issue and the fact that we want to keep Wikipedia as free as possible. If there's any way you can find a free alternative, that would be great! Thanks for your understanding, and let me know if you have any more questions. — RG2 talk 20:15, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] My (HereToHelp’s) RfA
Thank you for supporting my RfA. I’m proud to inform you that it passed with 75 support to 1 oppose to 2 neutral. I promise to make some great edits in the future (with edit summaries!) and use these powers to do all that I can to help. After all, that’s what I’m here for! [edit] RE: Image copyright problem with Image:Neffpic.jpg
Do not DELETE neffpic.jpg. I am Lou Delgado, I place the photo in public domain. Besides it's a crop and of poor quality. I'll add the info required, but it will be a guess. Sometime in late 1993. Ticky tack ^%^&%$#$%%^%&&**&. —This unsigned comment was added by Luigibob (talk • contribs) .
[edit] RE: Image copyright problem with Image:Ayn rand name.gif
Per your note to me at http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:ProudPrimate&redirect=no
1. the image is gone 2. another source has added the equivalent information in 2 new images
Conclusion: the subject is fully treated: all refs to my prev. upload may be destroyed. Thank you. —This unsigned comment was added by ProudPrimate (talk • contribs) .

[edit] Miss Britain III image copyright problem
Working on this - should sort it out this week GrahamBould 07:04, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
Did you intend to tag this image for speedy deletion? That's essentially what you did, in marking it {{withpermission}}. In fact the summary doesn't state that it's "with permission", it just states the source of the image. Tagging it fair use explicitly claims that the image is copyrighted (the first line says "This work is copyrighted"). Just wondering if you bothered to check Britain's copyright laws with this regard? --pfctdayelise (translate?) 10:58, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
- I'm still looking at this image, per GrahamBould's comment. {{withpermission}} doesn't make it an automatic speedy deletion candidate, either. — RG2 talk 19:16, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
