  • "Concerning the lyrics and vocals, there is still Rap of course but Corey has really begun grunting on Iowa and his clean singing voice is used more often this time. He can really sing though, let there be no doubt about that. The lyrics are extremely juvenile naturally but there are a few nice lines here and there (my fav being: "I'm just bastard, but at least I admit, At least I admit it!!"). One thing that bothers me though is that "Iowa"'s lyrics have been printed on the disc itself…" - http://www.metal-observer.com/articles.php?lid=1&sid=1&id=5444
  • "The title track (also old and formerly known as "Killers Are Quiet") is a deeply unsettling heavy-metal "Midnight Rambler." Frontman Corey Taylor claims to have performed it naked and bleeding from self-inflicted wounds, which isn't hard to believe." - Amazon.com Official review http://www.amazon.com/Iowa-Slipknot/dp/B00005A46T (I don't know if this is worth adding..Is it true?)
    • "...there isn't much shock value left in the words fuck and shit, which Taylor uses in some variation more than forty times in Iowa's sixty-six minutes."
    • "You really notice his knack for violent oath and psychotic metaphor when he keeps it clean in the soft-loud dementia of "Gently" and the thundering paranoia of "New Abortion.""
    • "Iowa's fifteen-minute title track is actually less interesting for Taylor's corpse-love soliloquy than the band's vivid evocation of a makeshift-cornfield grave at midnight."
  • "The lyrics, meanwhile, take gore-fixated loathing to positively operatic levels, especially when Corey announces, "You f**kin' touch me I will rip you apart/ I'll reach in and take a bite out of that shit you call a heart."" - http://uk.launch.yahoo.com/l_reviews_a/21574.html
