Miguel Ángel López Díaz[1] (born January 8, 1958), better known by his ring name Rey Misterio, Sr., is a Mexican professional wrestler and trainer.[1] His "luchador" name directly translates to "King Mystery" in English. He was one of the top stars and promoters in Mexico throughout the 1960s and 1970s.[2]

On March 25, 1988, Rey Misterio, Sr. lost his mask to Fishman.

In 1990 in World Championship Wrestling (WCW), he teamed with Konnan as Team Mexico, taking on Team UK (Chris Adams and Norman Smiley) in the Pat O'Connor Memorial International Cup Tag Team Tournament, which aired on StarrCade.[3]

In 1992, Misterio teamed with his nephew Rey Mysterio, Jr. in World Wrestling Association (WWA) to win the WWA World Tag Team Championship by defeating Villano IV and Villano V.[2]

On May 31, 2008, Misterio teamed with his son, El Hijo de Rey Misterio, to become the first Pro Wrestling Revolution Tag Team Champions. They defeated The Border Patrol (Oliver John and Nathan Rulez) in Santa Maria, California.

He is one of the most well-respected lucha libre trainers in the history of the sport.[1] Misterio has trained several prominent wrestlers, including Rey Mysterio, Jr., Psicosis, Konnan, Damien 666, Halloween, Gacela, Caballero 2000, and Eiji Ezaki.[1][2][3][4] He began training Rey Mysterio, Jr. when he was fourteen.[2]

Misterio was also a mentor to Roberto Castillo.[1] He trained him in Tijuana.[1]

Diaz is the father of Mexican wrestler El Hijo de Rey Misterio ("The Son of King Mystery"). He is also the uncle of wrestler Rey Mysterio, Jr..[2]

He is featured in the horror film El Mascarado Massacre (or Wrestlemaniac).[5]
