Reyðarfjörður

Reyðarfjörður is a town in Iceland. The town sits at the head of the largest fjord in the east coast of Iceland (of the same name). From the early 20th century, Reyðarfjörður had been used as a trading port. It was one of the Allied bases in Iceland during the World War II. There is a war museum, located at the old camp above the town. Reyðarfjörður is surrounded with beautiful mountains called Hádegisfjall and Grænafell The town has about 2 300 inhabitants. There are also approximately 1395 foreign workers of polish origin, who work at the Alcoa Aluminium Plant, one of the highest concentration of foreign residents within one given location in the entire country.
The controversial Alcoa aluminium smelting plant is 3km east of the town.
