Rex Liu

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Rex Liu (born March 3, 1982) is a noted Canadian-born British classical bassoonist.[1] His nuanced musical phrasing and warm, rounded tone are strongly influenced by Michael Chapman. He studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music, and pursued his undergraduate education at Trinity College, Cambridge. Like several other notable musicians, including Yo-Yo Ma and Ariana Ghez, Liu valued the balance of also having a strong education outside of music, and read physics during his time at Cambridge, where he studied under Brian Josephson. He has toured widely, performing in several countries, including England, Canada, China, Japan, and the United States. He has also given invited lectures at several universities on such topics as the influence of Wagner on German culture.
