Rewi Maniapoto

Rewi Manga Maniapoto (died 1894) was a Waikato chief who led Maori forces during the British Invasion of Waikato during the New Zealand Wars. Rewi chose to make his last stand at Orakau, in 1864. The Maori were surrounded by the British, without supplies or water. On the third day of the siege, the Maori escaped into the bush.
