[edit] Austrofascism
Hi, thank you for your marvellous work on this article! You did a truly great job. Yet I tend to think that the German article is in some ways problematic. I understand this was discussed on the German talk page some time ago, and some user attacked the article for being onesided. I don't want to comment on this in general, but I know quite a bit about Austria's cultural life before 1938. As a quite reliable source I have included the recent book by Andreas Novak on the Salzburg Festival in the years before the Anschluss. It is interesting that the cultural life of Austria especially between 1933 and 1938 relied heavily on Jewish artists, some of them native Austrians, others emigrants from Nazi Germany. This was supported by a regime that at the same time featured rather undemocratic and/or clerical tendencies. Needless to say that these contradictions seem confusing today, and maybe this is why historians still struggle to find a common way to define this part of Austria's history. However, it is obvious that some of the sources for the German article are not first class, e. g. the works by Sylvia Maderegger and Stephan Neuhäuser. Neither of them is a relevant historian or renowned expert for Austrian history. Maderegger's dissertation is from 1970, and she works as a teacher in Salzburg. Neuhäuser is an official working for the Austrian ministry of cultural affairs. From my point of view they have exaggerated and/or obscured certain aspects. I have tried to correct and expand the section on Antisemitism as far as I know about this issue and tried to avoid being partial. I think it is important not to overlook the role played by Jewish artists in Austria before 1938. It would be nice to enlarge this section and put some light on Jewish Austrian entrepreneurs, shopkeepers, artisans, athletes, intellectuals, or scientists. Unfortunately my knowledge about this is annoyingly limited at present, but I guess there will be other users to enrich the article with additional facts. --Catgut 22:51, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Re:Crown Heights Riot
You're absolutely right on your assessment but I wouldn't waste too much effort in trying to convince Edstat of that. That's why we're in mediation. CJ 21:05, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
As they say, every little bit helps. Thanks. CJ 10:11, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Just wnated to say that I trully enjoy the discussion. I think it is an interesting topic and you have some good and valid points!! Hope the category stays in some form on Wikipedia, though :) . Bolekpolivka 11:31, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] The Kay
Hallo,
—Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.95.143.150 (talk) 19:00, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to Wikipedia:WikiProject_European_history
Welcome and thanks for joining. I'm trying to revamp the project and work out the ins and outs of collaboration with Wikipedia:WikiProject History. I'm also working on some of the Romanian and Transylvanian articles and Portal:Transylvania. Unfortunately, I've found that many if not all of the other members listed are inactive, at least with respect to the project. Please feel more than welcome to mark up the Project page with what you see is needed and let me know what you think we can do to further the project. Thanks again.--Doug.(talk • contribs) 03:12, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Hey! BTW, your link at the top of your talk page to start a new thread is targeted to your old UserID which is a redirect back, so it doesn't work.--Doug.(talk • contribs) 03:12, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] No one expects a Pigman admin!
Wallowing in my RfA: This time it's personal... | ||
My sincere thanks for your support in my request for adminship, which ended with 51 supports, 0 opposes, and 0 neutral. Doubtless it was an error to put one of the government-bred race of pigmen in any position of authority, but I hope your confidence in me proves justified. Even a man pure of heart and who says his prayers at night can become a were-boar when the moon is full and sweet. Fortunately, I'm neither a were-pig nor pure of heart so this doesn't appear to be an imminent danger to Wikipedia for the moment. Fortunate as well because were-pig hooves are hell on keyboards and none too dexterous with computer mice. If ever I should offend, act uncivil, misstep, overstep, annoy, violate policy, or attempt to topple the fascist leadership of Wikipedia, please let me know so I can improve my behaviour and/or my aim. I am not an animal; I am an admin. And, of course, if there is any way in which I can help you on Wikipedia, please do not hesitate to ask me. Despite my japes, I am indeed dedicated to protecting and serving Wikipedia to the best of my foppish and impudent abilities. I will strive to be an admirable admin, shiny and cool, reasonable and beatific. Pigmanwhat?/trail 05:41, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Request for Comment about Problem
Hi Revolving Bugbear, can you please take a look this discussion in reference to images that were uploaded from WWII in Color website, the copyright status is in question and there have been many users who are part of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Aircraft who are upset about the Wiki Policy about image licensing WP:IUP. Thank you! -TabooTikiGod 07:42, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] User:Mooner72
Copyedit from my talk page: "This user appears to be a sockpuppet of TougHHead. Be wary. Bzuk (talk) 21:22, 18 November 2007 (UTC).
- Out of curiosity, what leads you to believe this? (This is not an indictment, just fact-gathering.) Cheers! - Revolving Bugbear 21:27, 18 November 2007 (UTC)"
- See: Mooner72 Talk page. It struck me as curious that TougHHead would create a talk page for someone else, in the aftermath of a large number of interactions with admins and other users regarding civility issues. See:Record of edits I could be waaay off base but... FWIW Bzuk (talk) 21:36, 18 November 2007 (UTC).
[edit] Sci-fi Western
I know what you mean, believe me I do. It is the same story over at the Steampunk article, as well as the list of Steampunk works, and other places where the definitions are unclear to people, or they simply do not bother to read the definition in the first place. I removed Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen (!) from the steampunk article for this very reason. All of these articles require constant vigilance. Thanks for your message. ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 18:01, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] BDORT Question
I am new to Wikipedia. I noticed your comments under BDORT and was wondering what happens next with this issue? If you don't mind my asking, how do you resolve a situation where a reference exists but the reference, on close examination, does not support the content? Thanks. [edit] RFA?
I think you've grown a lot since a year and a half ago. If you'd like to take it up again, just give me a line and I'll be happy to start your nom page. bibliomaniac15 00:52, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
- I've created it. Tell me if you'd like something to be changed in my nom statement. Please answer the questions if you'd like, then transclude it onto the RFA page (you've done this before, just making sure). bibliomaniac15 21:08, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] You are now an administrator
Congratulations, I have just closed your RfA as successful and made you an administrator. Take a look at the administrators' how-to guide and the administrators' reading list if you haven't read those already. Also, the practice exercises at the new admin school may be useful. If you have any questions drop me a message at my talk page. Best wishes, WjBscribe 21:13, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Congratulations on your successful request for adminship. I am glad you passed, and you are welcome for the support. For information on using your new tools, see the school for new admins; you will find it very useful. Good luck! Acalamari 23:04, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Due to an edit conflict, you now have two T-shirts. This happened to me, too. You can keep one pristine for special occasions, and wear the other on drunken mopping duty ;-) - Kathryn NicDhàna ♫♦♫ 23:26, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Congratulations!
Advice I was given on being handed a mop and just one T shirt:
- Remember you will always protect the wrong version.
- Remember you must always follow the rules, except for when you ignore them. You will always pick the wrong one to do. (See #5)
- Remember to assume good faith and not bite. Remember that when you are applying these principles most diligently, you are probably dealing with a troll.
- Use the block ability sparingly. Enjoy the insults you receive when you do block.
- Remember when you make these errors, someone will be more than happy to point them out to you in dazzling clarity and descriptive terminology.
