Retro On Roscoe
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Retro On Roscoe is a Chicago street festival that takes place every year in early August. The Retro On Roscoe street festival is hosted by the Roscoe Village Neighbors neighborhood association. Like the other Neighborhood Street Festivals that are popular Chicago Events, Retro On Roscoe features tents setup by various artisans and merchants, food and beverage stands, and several stages with live music. Each stage features several music acts throughout the day. Retro On Roscoe typically features bands that play hits from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, but bands that play original music can also be seen at the festival. Family entertainment is a feature at this festival. Retro On Roscoe has been host to several popular children's entertainers including Ralph's World and Justin Roberts (musician). Visitors to Retro On Roscoe may also see an antique car show and cooking demonstrations.
The main entrance for the festival is located at the intersection of Roscoe and Damen on Chicago's North side. Retro On Roscoe takes place on Roscoe Street which is closed during the weekend of the festival. The venue typically occupies Roscoe Street from Damen to Leavitt.
Typically, the Roscoe Village Neighbors ask for a $5.00 donation to enter the festival (because the festival takes place on a public street, payment to enter is not required, and entrance can not be denied). Any proceeds from the festival are used by the Roscoe Village Neighbors neighborhood association to fund neighborhood events and support improvements to parks, schools, and other aspects of the community. The Roscoe Village Neighbors neighborhood association recruits more than 300 volunteers each year to help with the festival.
