Retailer Owned Food Distributors & Associates

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Retailer Owned Food Distributors & Associates (or ROFDA) is a trade association that serves retailers' cooperatives in the supermarket industry. It has 17 member retailers' cooperatives throughout the United States, and is based in Gardendale, Alabama.

It was founded in 1962 by cooperative food distributors in the southeastern United States as the Southeastern Food Cooperative Association (SFCA). The organization grew geographically and adopted its current name in 1988.

Its primary function is to enable cooperatives to gain economies of scale through centralized purchasing and joint logistics. It achieves this by networking its members with suppliers (its associate members), and negotiating competitive pricing and incentives, rather than itself acting as a wholesaler or distributor.[1][2]
