[edit] Weight change?

The Christian Bale article says he exhibits serious weight change in this movie, but it doesn't say whether it's weight gain/loss and how much. Anyone know this info? -Mike Payne 19:28, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

It must be weight loss. Dieter Dengler weighed about 80 pounds when he was rescued. NinjaLore 06:49, 24 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Cary Grant

I deleted the hyperlink from the name Cary Grant (the first name on the credits list) to the article about the famous actor Cary Grant. I'm sure it is not the same person.

[edit] Platform release meaning....?

Pardon my ignorance, but what's a platform release? PiCo 04:43, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Criticism section is a bit odd as is

Right now it appears to be a platform for a website that's in favor of whatever opinion this relative-group has... which is odd and fairly irrelevant since it's no surprise (in any way) that a movie "Based on a true story" isn't 100% true (that would be par for the course). Anyone else think it should be cut down (probably not eliminated, but reduced to a bullet point)? --Bobak 18:42, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

I turned this possible attempt at free PR into a Trivia point that covers its sources and gist in a much shorter form. --Bobak 18:45, 20 July 2007 (UTC)
More detail -- some of it quite petty -- has been added to the section since the last edit so, based on the above comments, I've once again reduced the section. This wikipedia entry should be about the film itself. It shouldn't serve as free advertising for someone's website. The section notes accusations of inaccuracies have been levelled at the film, and the website in question has been linked. Readers who want more detail about the claims can simply follow the link.-Hal Raglan 18:00, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

The criticism of the movie seems to be based on the DeBruin web site, which itself does not square with either Deiter Dengler's own accounts in his book ESCAPE FROM LAOS or his recollections in the Herzog documentary and to other interviewers. The criticism asserts that the other prisoners had already come up with the escape plan before Dengler joined them, but in fact the entire group was moved to a new camp a few days later and any prior plan would have been moot. In his book Dengler makes clear that except for him and Martin and one of the Thais, the other prisoners were not in favor of an escape. Furthermore, even after they came up with a plan, one of the Thais initially refused to participate until he learned that the guards were making plans to kill them all so they could go home. Dengler makes clear that escape plan was implemented was primarily his idea and that he took the lead - he was the first prisoner to leave the hut and he was the one who procured the guard's weapons. The site does not reflect any of Dengler's account, but seems to be based entirely on DeBruin's criticism. ~~SamMcGowan~~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by SamMcGowan (talk • contribs) 15:51, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] This statement makes no sense

"Herzog admits that DeBruin acted heroically during his imprisonment, refusing to leave while some sick prisoners remained, but Herzog was unaware of this fact until after the film had been completed." How could he not have known? This is nonsense. Could someone who has at least read Dengler's book add what Dengler says about DeBruin? I would think it's safe to assume that Herzog read the book. 71.63.86.153 (talk) 04:34, 18 December 2007 (UTC) Just Saying

I have read Dengler's book and saw what he said about DeBruin, which is that he was essentially a kook, although they were friends. DeBruin did not "remain behind" with other prisoners. He elected to accompany Y.C. To who had trouble keeping up due to a problem with his legs. ~~SamMcGowan~~

[edit] Fresh Air Interview with Herzog on the Heroic Journey in 'Rescue Dawn'

There is a great interview on NPR here that provides some great info that could be included in this article. Like the actors actually ate maggots, the weight loss was real, and the leaches were real, too. --Eurlim 21:52, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Headlines

This article appears to be set up to perpetrate the viewpoint of one side, evidently the DeBruin family. When I attempted to insert comments based on content from Dieter Dengler's own book and from his comments in the documentary, "Little Dieter Needs to Fly", they were reverted as "vandalism." In my opinion, this entire article is worthless and one-sided. ~~SamMcGowan~~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by SamMcGowan (talk • contribs) 15:37, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Welsh Accent - corrected

I just changed the line that says Christian Bale normally speaks with a Welsh accent. He doesn't - he has a Southern English (similar to London) accent, having moved from Wales to Bournemouth when very young (see his biog page, "In 1976, when Christian was two years old, the Bale family left Wales"). 87.236.134.146 (talk) 11:35, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
