The Residential Center of Educative Opportunities of Mayagüez ("C.R.O.E.M.") is a public secondary specialized High School, in Mayagüez in the United States insular area of Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rico Department of Education operates the school.

The compromise of developing in the students the values, knowledge, basic skills, habits and attitudes that allow them their full development.

As established by Law 68, Organic Law of the Department of Education of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico the School proclaims its compromise of providing equal educative opportunities of the highest quality to all students.
CROEM stimulates the major participation of all members of the educative process in the decisions of the school. Fortifying the autonomy of the scholar nucleus and amplifying as possible, the public education. The principle of teaching and search for new alternatives in the process of teaching-learning is believed. As expressed textually: the excellence as fundamental aspiration of the Educative System and that the Student is the center of the system. CROEM students receive an education that together with the attention of other social institutions, contributes in the development of an educated human being, capable of understanding the society in which he lives in, incorporating to the process of social change, and that recognizes the positive values that distinguishes the population. To achieve these intentions, C.R.O.E.M. offers a different and ample curriculum with emphasis in the individualization of teaching, the independent study, tutoring, investigation, the co-curricular activities, the assessment from university professors, the desired study habits, and the healthy social coexistence, this last one achieved by the residential life.
[edit] Accreditation and membership
CROEM was founded on the 1967-1968 school year, Being academically adopted in the 1990-1991 school year by the University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez Campus. In the 1992-1993 school year CROEM was inscribed in the Specialized School Unit of the Puerto Rico Department of Education. That same year, in it’s silver anniversary, it obtains the "Blue Ribbons" award, an award of excellence of the Federal Department of Education. That is summed to achieving the school’s accreditation from the General Council of Education of Puerto Rico for six years.

Due to the academic nature of the Center, students must apply to be considered into the School. The admissions process is available to students from across the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and is open for the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades.

The Residential Center for Educative Opportunities of Mayagüez is located in State Road 349, km 6.6 of Cerro Las Mesas in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. It has a panoramic view of 360 degrees where the municipalities of Cabo Rojo, Hormigueros, San Germán and Lajas can be appreciated, as well as the Caribbean Sea.
Due to the high altitude and distance from urban centers, CROEM students are not allowed to leave the Center on their own. The view is a relaxing and impressive one, where natural events are appreciated with a unique view.
The convenience of the location is such that it has been used by Federal programs such as The Globe Program. Furthermore the possibility exists that the next SuperCam of Noticentro 4, one of the island's news programs, will be installed on the CROEM campus.
[edit] Town Fair
Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the C.R.O.E.M. will be helding its traditional Town Fair on March 3, 2008. The activity promises to be outstanding as the center celebrates 4 decades since its foundation back in 1968. Among the attendees will be Alex Croatto, son of deceased singer Tony Croatto, singer who committedly attended the activity in past years.
