Resident Evil Gaiden is a Resident Evil video game featured on the Game Boy Color handheld console, and is the only one in the series so far which features Barry Burton as the main character. As the word Gaiden suggests (meaning "side story"), the game is not canonical to the main series. It was developed by the now defunct company M4 Ltd.

[edit] Plot

[edit] Story

After the events in Raccoon City, an underground anti-Umbrella organization forms to put an end to Umbrella. Leon is sent to investigate the ocean liner "Starlight" which is rumoured to be carrying a new Bio-Organic Weapon (B.O.W) developed by Umbrella, but eventually contact is lost with him.

The player takes the role of Barry, who is sent to complete Leon's mission. When he arrives on board he discovers that an outbreak similar to the one in Raccoon City has occurred on the ship. Eventually Barry meets up with a girl named Lucia and finds Leon, and the trio must escape from both the ship and an Umbrella submarine before once again returning aboard the Starlight for the final showdown with the B.O.W.

The game ends with a closeup of Leon's neck bleeding green blood from a small cut wound, suggesting that Leon may have been infected with some kind of virus or may have even been replaced by the new B.O.W.

All events in this game are shown to be non-Canon with the events of Resident Evil 4, since Leon is perfectly normal in the later game and not infected in any way.

[edit] Characters

  • Leon S. Kennedy: Ex-Raccoon Police Department police officer, Leon is now enlisted in an anti-Umbrella group. He is sent in first to investigate the mysterious ocean liner STARLIGHT. HQ Loses contact with him shortly after he arrives.
  • Barry Burton: Former officer of S.T.A.R.S., Barry has been sent to the STARLIGHT to find out why HQ lost contact with Leon, and to find evidence about a new B.O.W. developed by Umbrella Corporation.
  • Lucia: A mysterious young girl found on the ship, she has the newly developed Umbrella B.O.W. inside her body.
  • H.Q.: Throughout the game, a radio operative from HQ will be in permanent contact with the player.
  • Captain: The Captain of a submarine sent by Umbrella to retrieve Lucia.

[edit] Enemies

  • Regular Zombies: These zombies are the most common enemies, they slash, acid spit, and bite at short range.
  • Armed Zombies: Some zombies attack with a crowbar and other weapons.
  • Female Zombies: These zombies can inflict poison damage, but they are the easiest ones to kill.
  • Captain Zombie: When the ship's captain turns into a zombie, he attacks the player. He has a gun and he can fire it to deliver heavy damage.
  • B.O.W.: A Tyrant-like creature sent by Umbrella to retrieve Lucia too, who causes the outbreak in both the Umbrella submarine and the STARLIGHT.
  • Parasite B.O.W.: A newly developed bio-organic weapon that develops inside humans. After a period over ten days, the parasite will eat its way out of the host. It has the unique ability to disguise itself as a human, with the only giveaway being its bright green blood.
