Low resolution?

Yes.

Purpose of use

Illustration of article's subject, a child chess prodigy

Replaceable?

None, as subject is deceased.

Other information I think this photo of the young Reshevsky is a perfect illustration of a chess prodigy - a child competing against (and surrounded by) adults. I also believe it was taken in 1917, i.e. before 1923.
