Wikipedia talk:Requests for checkuser/Case/Grandia01

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Re "There is past bad blood…", I had no significant feelings towards Grandia01 until this vulgar attack. The diffs I'd provided re Grandia01's editing patterns emerely responded to Chaser's request for me to illustrate the existence of a past conflict which might have motivated Grandia01's post; they were not intended to initiate any kind of lengthy procedure (such as an RfC). In fact I had originally posted this at WP:AIV with the expectation of a speedy resolution: it was removed on procedural grounds even though the case was acknowledged to be "very good."[1] Now here it is at RfCU despite universal agreement that a mountain of evidence unambigously points to Grandia01, and despite the fact that Grandia01 has not even bothered to deny it.[2]
I would like to remove myself and Merzbow from this request per fishing. I do have other usernames which, if revealed, might allow the curious to determine my real-world occupation and identity, and I am willing to disclose these along with my IP information privately to checkusers via e-mail. It is moot anyhow, as the checkuser will assuredly show the IP to be Grandia01.Proabivouac 00:44, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure whoever runs the check won't out your other accounts. As long as you're not stacking AFDs with them or something, it's OK.--Chaser - T 00:54, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Chaser, your handling of this matter has advanced from incompetent to objectively abusive. Even as you speculate (as you obviously must) that I very elaborately framed Grandia01, at least remove Merzbow, whom you concede to be "unlikely to be behind the IP's actions" (indeed, this is supremely unlikely) - "covering your bases" isn't a valid reason to add someone to a checkuser.Proabivouac 01:11, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm really tired of you attacking me. Please stop.--Chaser - T 01:32, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
The real attack is this fishing trip. I would expect better conduct from an admin. Merzbow and Pro are both established users. I think that Chaser should just admit he hasn't handled this situation very well and we can all move on. Arrow740 01:36, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Both removed. I am sorry for creating the impression that this RFCU was meant to accuse the two of you for wrongdoing (I'm addressing Merzbow below). That was not my intention, although I understand my action of including the both of you had that consequence, which I probably should have realized. The reason I included accounts other than Grandia's was because the lack of an autoblock indicates that he doesn't use that IP address (or, at the least, stopped using it). Besides Grandia, I'm baffled who else could be using that IP.--Chaser - T 02:35, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
OK, let's put that behind us. I don't know the details of autoblock but if I had to guess it's probably not smart enough to block dynamic IP ranges, and if he gets a new IP every time he dials-up or whatever, that could explain it. - Merzbow 05:27, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Oh fuck. I was just about to type something else when I realized that I blocked that IP anon. only. That's why no one is autoblocked! Anyway, what I was going to say was that

image diff connecting the IP to Grandia is from five days ago. It suggests a static IP.--Chaser - T 05:36, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

This is abusive fishing, Chaser. I'd advise you to remove us from the list. If you think there is prior evidence that either me or Pro are likely to have used an IP in that manner to frame this person (who I've personally never interacted with), which would justify throwing our names in a Checkuser, then show it. - Merzbow 02:12, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
See comment above.--Chaser - T 02:35, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
I agree with Merzbow. In order to legitimately include Merzbow and/or Proabivouac, you'd have to have some evidence that they had in the past created a sockpuppet in the style of a particular user in order to make that user look bad, or at least a probability (not just a possibility) that they were doing that now. Otherwise, it's just fishing. I see in any case that you've removed them from the request. I also agree that the image link suggests a connection between Grandia and the IP.
