[edit] One possible solution

One possible solution would be to outsource Signpost stories related to any of Ral315's bureaucratic duties to outside writers. Major papers sometimes do this when they report on themselves to avoid any conflict of interest introduced by their own reporters covering the story. The situation is similar here.--Chaser - T 03:49, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

That's a thoughtful suggestion, but we don't really have "outside writers" at Wikipedia in the sense that we could "hire" a truly noninterested person to report. It is better to avoid the problem by avoiding the problem. There is no one person (including myself, as has been demonstrated) that is so important to have as a bureaucrat that we should risk compromising the process, the Signpost, or both. -- Cecropia 15:23, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
I meant outside of the Signpost's usual roster of writers, not outside of Wikipedia. That would be impossible. In fact, this is already happening. The story for next week is being written by an outsider.--Chaser - T 23:57, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
We are not desperate for 'crats, especially since we have just promoted two; so, to paraphrase myself from above, it easier to simply avoid the COI rather than create the COI and then try to find ways to avoid it in practice. -- Cecropia 00:05, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
