[edit] From the RfA

This is where the discussion left off regarding Wisdom's oppose #1: Nishkid64 (Make articles, not wikidrama) 21:52, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

What's actually wrong with those reports, prey tell. Nick (talk) 20:51, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

See discussions at WT:U, WT:UAA and User talk:Rspeer. Wisdom89 (T / C) 21:07, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
No, that's not what I asked, my question, which you dodged, was "What's actually wrong with those reports ?" - if you can't answer a basic question like that, then I respectfully request you withdraw your oppose. Nick (talk) 21:12, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
How about this? You remain civil and not accuse me of dodging anything. Confusing usernames no longer require immediate attention at UAA, nor does mild profanity that isn't offensive. UAA is for immediate attention for blatant violations. The candidate should attempt to talk instead of reporting. Wisdom89 (T / C) 21:16, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
←If you dodge questions, don't get so upset when you're called for it dear chap, and don't get into the realms of branding a comment uncivil. Your second response is, at least, an answer, which is better than your first attempt, but it's a terrible answer. I'm quite frankly appalled you have the tenacity to Oppose a candidate for following policy and not your own personal viewpoint. The username reports are accurate, they're fully in line with policy and they're the exact sort of usernames that administrators will and should act upon. Nick (talk) 21:34, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Nick, my point is that it's not really policy anymore. Wikipedia changes, UAA is not immutable. That's why we have talk pages. I know you know that, but come on man. My answer is terrible? I simply feel that if he were to work at UAA under the current mentality, he's likely bite newbies. It's always better to talk to the user first instead of blocking and potentially scaring away a new editor forever. I'd like to point out also that I'm not just opposing based on three UAA diffs. It's also the fact that the candidate is sorely lacking in admin-related experpience. I bought up RFPP for a reason. Also, the AfD diff below is extremely alarming. Wisdom89 (T / C) 21:39, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Jhvbhjvjhvjhv Nick says this is a username that needs to be instantly, permanently, blocked. Which part of policy says that? Dan Beale-Cocks 23:11, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
whats wrong with those reports? - Lets start with the bits everyone agrees with. 1)UAA is for usernames that need to be instantly blocked, and which are in clear violation of policy. 2)A short but confusing username does not need to be instantly blocked; if they're vandalising give them a (hard) vandalism block. If they're impersonating process or persons that's misleading. I haven't looked at the diffs, but what did the report say *when* those reports were made? There's a big bold bit at the top saying "DONT BLOCK FOR CONFUSING USERNAMES, TALK TO THE USER FIRST". This is incredibly important. New user name blocking is harshest form of blocking and is much over used. A vandal calling people cunts might get, what, a week block? A misguided newbie creating an account with his band's name and an article for that band gets an indefinite block. Dan Beale-Cocks 23:08, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
