The introduction of this the Wikipedia:WikiProject Logic project to the Wikipedia may provide a means of organizing thought-as-articles with an intended goal of providing a global view of the Wikipedia as whole, regardless of the state of individual articles in or out of the project. The purpose of this intended goal is to provide some overall guideline as to what is acceptable as a Wikipedia article, with the wisdom to understand that at any given time, there will always be many articles in the Wikipedia that individuals will find to be unacceptable and therefore avoidable in their usage of an online encyclopedic web site.

It may be anticipated that many users would find the organization of thought-as-articles to be avoidable in itself for several reasons of personal and potentially unknowable philosophy or religion. Such an organization should therefore be an additional tool for grasping the whole of the Wikipedia, not its sole organizing principle. If it were the sole organizing principle, then many would argue that if this project had that principle in mind as a mandatory attribute of article inclusion, then it would be an unacceptable disruption of the Wikipedia merely to make a point. At the same time, any article's existence is its own potential for modification by categorization under GFDL (without the "owners" of that article experiencing the anguish of textual changes to the article's body), and any given article's inclusion within the scope of this project would be justifiable on that account.

While I am not yet prepared to offer a proof, I do believe that logic is involved in most if not all human endeavors, even if that logic is not immediately obvious or discernable to the observer. A lot of what initially appears illogical can be seen as logical based on what we see as poor premise choices, but to the one making those choices, the logic is there even if it has not yet been given positive expression. An article on applications of logic would therefore encompass many if not all articles on human endeavors both past and present, and to prevent such an article from being merely an un-annotated list of articles, each link to an article would include some explanation of how logic is applied to that thing, concept, or activity to provide a context for the article's inclusion.

As one example, there could be a link from an article applications of logic to jurisprudence with an explanation of the use of case law as some of the complex premises for reaching publishable legal opinions.

The article could then be considered as a Wikipedia organizing principle that promotes an understanding of both human history and progress into the future.

Of course, such an article applications of logic could give way to a category on applications of logic without any objection from me. For the truly ambitious, a series of articles or sections within given articles entitled Logic applied to X might be the result of this proposal. Hotfeba 17:52, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Sounds good. Many of those would be redirects to existing articles (at first I guess). Here are some ideas...

Applications of logic on:

  • Mathematics
  • Philosophy
  • Computer science
  • Linguistics
  • Grammar
  • Rhetoric
  • Metaphysics
  • Biology
