Skateboarding Category

There isn't one in the Sports section. WTF T_T don't know how to put it in... (PowerGamer6 04:03, 23 April 2006 (UTC)) What about one for a wikinerd?222.155.243.149 19:25, 28 May 2006 (UTC)

Hygine catagory

I think this is needed, anyone agree? -Linuxx

Yes, because without it the world would not be a very good place to live in. Wiki_sosa

Pages with many unfinished links

I'd like to add a category or heading or page for existing pages that contain many "requested" links. For example someone interested in ladybirds could add just "ladybirds". The current (unsatisfactory) way would be to add to the biology section: Seven-spotted lady beetle, Two-spotted lady beetle, Convergent lady beetle, Spotted lady beetle, Twice-stabbed lady beetle, Mexican bean beetle, etc, etc. that's kinda long and much more annoying than just ladybird.

I'd create a wikipedia:List of articles with many unfinished links: page or heading myself but i dont know what to call it or where to put it. Pengo 11:25, 3 Mar 2004 (UTC)

This is now available at Wikipedia:WikiProject Red Link Recovery/Most red links. -- Beland 9 July 2005 01:43 (UTC)

Question about listing REDIRs on Requested articles page

Should redirects be listed here since they are live links, or should they be moved to cleanup? It seems like many of them become disambig pages, anyway. Davodd 00:11, Mar 6, 2004 (UTC)

If you want to create an article out of a redirect, you should add a sentence or two about it in the article itself, mark it as a stub, and remove it from this list. Otherwise, it will probably be mistakenly removed by someone else, since it will show up as blue. -- Beland 9 July 2005 02:16 (UTC)

How are the few requests in the open tasks template determined?

I'm wondering what (or who) determines the couple of requested articles that appear in the "Community portal" page. I sometimes work pick a few "red links" and create new articles. I noticed three of the requests that have shown up recently are small places in Vermont which is where I used to live. I've already done an article for "Cabot Creamery", and I'm kind of wondering if Barre Granite is enough of a topic to need an article, and Killington Peak is next. Morris 04:46, Dec 31, 2004 (UTC)

It's totally based on whatever editor happens to notice that Template:Opentasks needs updating, and goes and grabs some unwritten articles from here. You'r welcome to do it yourself. Just add Template:Opentask to your watchlist, and update it when it needs it. JesseW 01:06, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)
<Jun-Dai 05:48, 4 Jan 2005 (UTC)>Are we expected to pick them more or less at random, or is it acceptable and even welcomed that someone enter an item that they really want to see written?</Jun-Dai>

I just prioritized the queue there according to Wikipedia:Most wanted articles and Wikipedia:Articles requested for more than two years. Hopefully most people who update the page will simply use those lists, since that will probably benefit the site most. If you want to post a pet project, I don't think anyone will revert you, at least not right away. Certainly that's been common practice up till now, and is still common practice for most of the lines there. (Though I've been more systematic, rotating through the alphabet to avoid letting any single request linger too long.) -- Beland 9 July 2005 02:16 (UTC)

Where to put request for page?

Hi All, Where would the best place to put a request for an article to be created about my company? We're a US-based non-profit that does reproductive health work in Asia, Africa & Latin America. I'm inclined not to create it myself, though there does seem to be some discussion about it maybe being OK to do depending on a number of factors, but I'm not sure how to file the request for it. Thanks in advance for any thoughts. -Pfwebadmin 18:38, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

It doesn't matter; just add it under "Other" or anywhere else that seems appropriate. Better yet, just create a stub and see what happens. I don't think it matters whether an insider or an outsider creates the article; either it's appropriate for inclusion or it's not, and that can be settled by VFD. -- Beland

Wikipedians for hire?

Follow up to the above question: Is it being done yet that Wikipedians can be "hired" to create content? Obviously, that sort of thing could raise concerns about objectivity etc, but seeing as though anything that might be written on spec would be subjected to the same editing for NPOV etc as anything else, it seems like something that could be made to work in some fashion or other. Regards, Pfwebadmin 18:38, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I don't get it either? WHERE do I actually post a request? It is very unclear and confusing? I would like an article on Swiss commodity house Glencore...

Article requests based on Red-lk-ed entries on LoPbN

I am in the process of compiling the entries on List of people by name that have no articles. These amount to requests for bios to be written, and my intention is to sort them into subject areas and add them to the appropriate pages on this multipage list. (I would guess those including no more info than, maybe, DoB and DoD can go together under some kind of "nondescript bio" topic.) (I am doing this by hand, which, as a one-off, is not so bad since it gives me occasion to clean up entries even for entries that have articles.)

The major issue on my mind at the moment is whether dumping them in here is disruptive.

  1. I don't know how intense or realistic a desire for an article is typical for entries that get added here; for a casual editor who is familiar with LoPbN, the effort it takes to create a red link there is very small. E.g., i removed in the last 24 hours an entry, apparently misfiled under M, where i expect my effort of Google-testing it first exceeded its author's effort severalfold; it read:
    Morris Zhang, great man
  2. I don't know how troublesome a big influx would be: i might hit you a month or two from now eventually with around 10 thousand entries.

Will these inputs be welcome or not? Should they be kept separate from hopefully more thoughtfully screened ones, by putting onto this list one or more links to my lists of "requests" merely inferrred from LoPbN entries?

Those interested in seeing raw samples, still in alpha order, may consult User:Jerzy/Red Links from LoPbN, but please bear in mind that C shows e.g. a filtering out of lks in the descriptions that i've evolved into since A -- and i may continue improving the implicit specifications for the list as i go on, and eventually retrofit the final specs.

How Much More than Article Title?

I note the following section "Photographers" on Wikipedia:Requested articles/Culture and fine arts

His Holiness the Dalai Lama, © Raghu Rai
His Holiness the Dalai Lama, © Raghu Rai

Ashkhan Sahihi - Gregory Colbert - Herman Leonard - Larry Keenan, photographer - Manuel Alvarez Bravo, photographer - Mareen Fischinger - Otto Hagel - Raghu Rai, photographer (famous for documentary photos, such as of the Bhopal disaster. Photographed the Dalai Lama, is the creator of the photo at right) - Rodinal - Rodney Graham (Canadian photographer, visual/conceptual artist) - Shadow noise - Steven Klein - William Claxton (photographer) - William Gottlieb - Yevgeni Mokhorev

The Raghu Rai entry strikes me as abusive in taking up the space of about 16 typical entries, and i need to ask about space since (as i discuss in the previous and containing section) i am planning to add not one, but a lot of entries from LoPbN, and they will include some where i have (already for LoPbN) converted long descriptions into comments, invisible to anyone not viewing thru an edit window. I am tempted to submit RA items like

Fiallo, Delia*, Spanish-language <!-- writer of --> novelist<!-- , many of which have been turned into Spanish-language soap operas -->

which renders as

Fiallo, Delia*, Spanish-language novelist

or even

Fiallo, Delia* <!-- , Spanish-language [writer of] novelist [, many of which have been turned into Spanish-language soap operas ]-->

which renders as

Fiallo, Delia*

using the asterisk to alert RA-readers to the fact that there is more info available by editing the RA-subpage section. (And of course each subpage i (or others?) use that on needs a note at the top explaining the */edit-for-details convention.)

How will that sit?
--Jerzy·t 20:10, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Jerzy there are presently 14 requested articles pages (Category:Wikipedia requested articles) covering about 16000 entries. In my opinion anything that is going to encompass more than a few hundred names should be handled as it's own subpage, such as how there is a seperate list of legal terms linked from the applied arts and sciences request page. Exactly what form that takes, will probably depend on how you end up organizing and categorizing the names. Dragons flight 19:20, Jun 14, 2005 (UTC)

Stub nomenclature proposal

I think we should make a page called Wikipedia:Microstub. Substubs are very small, they should be categorized as articles with 2 paragraphs or less, and have microstubs use today's substub standards. --SuperDude 05:21, 24 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Nah; the substub concept has little or no use (and no clear meaning except as a term of abuse) and there's no reason to even consider further subdivisions. --Jerzy~t 13:24, 19 May 2005 (UTC)

Indeed, substubs were tried for a while recently, but voted into oblivion. -- Beland 9 July 2005 02:16 (UTC)

Surrealism

should still be its own category as it overlaps extensively with several other categories than Culture/Fine Arts and is too difficult to otherwise categorise. --Daniel C. Boyer 15:41, 26 May 2005 (UTC)

Request for Definition Article of the word "Reprographic"

I am not familier with this word, and I would like a Definition, if anyone knows one. The word is "Reprographic", and the context is a job posting on Career Builder's system. I can only remember part of what was said, which is "Legal Reprographic", or something of that nature. Since I have little or no Legal knowledge this is really just curiosity. Anyway, thanks for reading.

Sorry, Wikipedia is not a dictionary, but an encyclopedia. Yuo may want to check with wiktionary. --Dmcdevit 29 June 2005 04:13 (UTC)

Request for Categorisation

I have noticed that the template: category: Category:Future events is not itself categorised. Not sure where it should go. Please could someone help thanks.

Companies

Where would companies go? Does not seem to be a good place. Vegaswikian 18:48, 14 July 2005 (UTC)

    • I think it might depend on what the company does to make money. --Barista | a/k/a マイケル | T/C 01:57, 17 July 2005 (UTC)

Where can I Request

Perhaps I'm simply oblivious, but I can't seem to find where I can actually put a request in. The page says "Please do not list requests on this page." Where do I go then? I thought a list of fictional works that have been turned into feature films would be a good addition but I'm not too sure and I don't want to waste people's time having to delete it once I make it. Sometimes I feel like such a n00b. ;) Cigarette 23:24, 24 July 2005 (UTC)

If you think an article is worth reading, then don't hesitate to create it. Chances are the info will find a good home, whether or not it's on Wikipedia. I've improved the front-page instructions, which should hopefully make it clearer where new requests should go. -- Beland 02:40, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
I added your request to Wikipedia:Requested articles/Culture and fine arts. Can't wait to read it. -- Beland 02:43, 17 August 2005 (UTC)

Where are requests for music/musicians?

I put up a number of requests for musicians and I can't seem to find them on this page? Was the music category taken off this page due to size limitations? mikemoto 12:39, 28 August 2005 (UTC)

I don't get it either? WHERE do I actually post a request? It is very unclear and confusing? I would like an article on Swiss commodity house Glencore...

I would really like a article on Susanna Johnson's capture and her diary - I do not know much about her but I read "Calico Captive" and it was quite good and sparked my intrest! GLY

Business & Economics

I have added business & economics, since there are a large no. of topics requested and it suits better if they are grouped together rather than in Applied arts and sciences and Social Sciences and Humanities like now. pamri 05:18, August 31, 2005 (UTC)
