[edit] Mediation Commencement

I have notified all of the parties above of the mediation and am awaiting contact from 4 of the parties. Nlu and Appleby have both given me their views by email and I have commenced the mediation between these two parties. Will post more information here when other parties make contact. [edit] Appointment of Two Spokespersons

Due to the current difficulty in conducting mediation, I am requesting that the parties, by consensus, appoint a spokesperson each for the mediation. This is in accordance with Wikipedia:Mediation#Disputants:

Disputant groups have to choose a representative from amongst them who may consult with the group during the process.

[edit] Agreement of relevant individuals

Two of the parties in the mediation requested that the mediation not be restricted to two parties. As such, the mediation will continue with the 6 relevant parties. MyNameIsNotBob 11:42, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Outside comment

In accordance with Wikipedia:WikiProject Disambiguation/Malplaced disambiguation pages, I've merged East Sea into East Sea (disambiguation). Of course, that doesn't moot the above argument, but you should keep in mind that a main page should not redirect to its attendant disambiguation page, but vice verse. • Clarification: My merger of the East Sea page is not related to the above discussion, and is not intended to influence the outcome. However, having never heard of an "East Sea" before today myself, I think that the current status of having "East Sea" as a disambiguation page is the most useful outcome for users of the encyclopedia. Cheers! BD2412 T 00:35, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Request for Reassignment

Over the past few weeks this mediation has hit the back burner on my priorities list and as such I am requesting that it be reassigned to somebody else. However, in my opinion the issue may be better dealt with by ArbCom as it raises some very difficult questions about the role of disambiguation pages. Most of the mediation took place at User:MyNameIsNotBob/East Sea. I would be more than keen though to hear about the result of this discussion. Regards. MyNameIsNotBob 02:56, 31 March 2006 (UTC)

Having looked through the mediation pages, it doesn't seem to me that this is an issue that has benefited from mediation. The parties don't seem to be any closer to an agreement than when the mediation began. I don't believe it is an issue for arbitration, yet, either; there don't seem to be gross violations of policy that require sanctioning . In short, it is an editing dispute that is unlikely to be resolved with all parties agreeing to a single solution. With that in mind, I suggest an RfC to determine community consensus on the appropriate solution, and an enforcement of that consensus. Mediation closed. Essjay TalkContact 02:07, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
