Repeatedly changing Rutgers University and Cap and Skull to either remove referenece to C&S (at the Rutgers page) or to vandalise (at the C&S page). In addition, ALL of his edits (except for Jimmy Hoffa and Mafia) have been either vandalism or promoting Stephen Bronner], Order of the Bull's Blood, and Brotherhood of the Golden Dagger. Extraordinarily annoying--Etaonish 12:36, Sep 29, 2004 (UTC)

Has also just attempted to remove his name from the list. --Etaonish 12:37, Oct 1, 2004 (UTC)

Do you have a problem that I have completely redesigned and expanded the Rutgers University entry? Your petulant desire to promote an inactive organization of no consequence has nothing to do with the entry and if i knew I could just "revert" to a previous incarnation, i wouldn't have just deleted it. Thirdly, I'm in the process of writing bios for the "notable faculty" It's not my fault I started with the top of the list. As for the other two, it's in the interests of comprehensiveness. I don't care if you're a 15-year old wunderkind spending a few years at RU, you, sir, are extraordinarily annoying.
You don't seem to accept the fact that it IS considered vandalism to put stuff on the Cap and Skull page like "Yes that's how lame they are"? You also removed your name from this page (twice), blanked your talk page when we warned you, and refused to incorporate any explanation at all with your edits. In addition, I never "promoted" the organization (which is still active); I am impressed by how you expanded the page, but that alone doesn't justify you inserting your opinions on Cap and Skull into the article. We all have done excellent work on pages, and personally, I've done much more than you have. I'm simply stating, in the interests of comprehensiveness, that Cap and Skull is a secret society at Rutgers. Nothing more. I have no beef with how you're expanding the page or writing bios, (I even complimented you on what I assume is your account, ExplorerCDT). I am complaining about your inability to assume a neutral position. Wikipedia is not a depository for your opinions.--Etaonish 16:57, Oct 1, 2004 (UTC)

As far as I can tell, pretty much everything he's done is to damage articles, from changing all of Big Bang to "BANG!!" to changing almost everything in Paris Hilton to sexual innuendo and even crossreferencing it to other articles he's maimed in the past. hif 8.13 GMT -5, Sep 29, 2004

[edit] Wiggles

User:Wiggles Contribs. On 27 September vandalised Wales at 1157 UTC, Ramiro I of Aragon at 1158, Medical/Market Center Station at 1200, and June 28 at 1202. Blocked for 30 minutes pending investigation of this user's activity, during which time user #9053 was autoblocked at 1207 UTC for coming from the same IP address.
Investigation showed the following articles were vandalised by this user on 21 September (all subsequently reverted, but not apparently reported here): John Mason at 1217, Berlin University of the Arts at 1344, Disk mirror (twice) at 1345/6, Bajoran at 1307, Army Men (game) at 1403, User Talk:Fishal at 1412, United States at 1414, and List of breakfast cereals multiple times at 1211. 1312 (twice), 1314 (twice), and 1506.
Strong warning left on his talk page. This user has never made a constructive edit to Wikipedia, therefore I recommend (and will action if I'm around at the time) an indefinite block of this user if he resumes his activities. -- Arwel 12:59, 27 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Following two legitimate edits on February 13, 2003, this user has made a string of occasional vandalising edits. The most recent vandalism, on September 24, 2004, follows the placing of two warnings on the user's talk page.

The most recent vandalism, after being reverted, was repeated by User:217.43.27.3, who has made no other edits. No direct information on whether this is the same person.

[edit] 24.146.23.30

I believe this is 142.151.177.134 who was banned earlier this week for one week. Both IPs track back to Canada. Adds the same bogus line to the article Neva. --Richss 21:46, Sep 25, 2004 (UTC)

Richard, I don't know why you're acting hostile towards me. I originally added the fact about Russian folklore to the article Neva months ago. Apparently, someone then decided to remove it without leaving any stated reason. It was then replaced by 142.151.177.134. You and him then got into a bit of a spat about it, and he said the fact about Russian folklore was false. I don't know why he did this. I don't know him. He's certainly not me. He simply happens to share my nationality. This shouldn't be any big surprise. So do tens of millions of other people. Needless to say, the fact that he shares my nationality does not mean I share his belief that the facts I added to the article were false. Fact is, they aren't false, and fact is, me adding them to the article is not vandalism. I don't know why you'd think anything else. --24.146.23.30 00:26, 26 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Whatever. If you are not the person who I've dealt with previously, I apologize. You obviously saw there was some debate on the validity of the statement in question if you took half a second to look at the discussion or the history. The fact of the matter is this statement IS NOT A FACT. It may be part of local folklore. However, I've tried to look this up and couldn't find anything supporting it. It just sounded bogus, written poorly, and nobody has provided a simple reference where this piece of folklore is discussed. I will let others make the edits from this point further. --Richss 02:57, Sep 26, 2004 (UTC)

24.146.23.30 made a questionable edit to the Friedrich Nietzsche page that I've reverted. Steve Casburn 02:35, 26 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I don't know why people seem to be getting into the habit of reverting my truthful and beneficial edits and then complaining about them in ViP, but oh well. --24.146.23.30 18:26, 26 Sep 2004 (UTC)
You may want to get a user account and make a case for the removed edits you consider to be truthful and beneficial in the associated Talk page. Ray Dassen 18:55, 2004 Sep 26 (UTC)

Several IP addresses in the 205.188.116.XXX range have been exhibiting Treason-esque behavior tonight, including vandalising User pages like mine. --Feitclub 00:58, Sep 19, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] User:Mansukram

Creating highly POV articles, which I have listed at Cleanup. Although I have repeatedly asked him/her to stop deleting the cleanup header, they keep doing so, and make no attempt to communicate. Probably more likely a newbie who doesn't understand how things work, but can't get him to stop deleting the cleanup header. RickK 04:52, Sep 16, 2004 (UTC)

  • I finally had to break my self-imposed anti-blocking policy on this guy because he continued to delete the NPOV and cleanup headers, and refused to discuss it. I will do the same with the anons who have also been working on these articles, if THEY revert the headers. RickK 06:18, Sep 16, 2004 (UTC)
    • Blocking may not be used to prevent a user from posting unpopular opinions. A content dispute between users should be settled on the article's talk page or on their own user talk pages. These users have been repeatedly adding and readding the same negative comments onto the Singapore page, as well as removing information, with no explanation whatsoever. Not all of the additions are completely invalid (I've left a few as-is), but so far they have completely refused to discuss any of the changes on the Talk page, despite having been asked to do so — they simply revert, again and again, making it completely impossible for it to work out a compromise NPOV article with them (or even, communicating with them at all). Definitely the same person. Has re-added the racism to the cartoon articles yet again. RickK 02:44, Sep 13, 2004 (UTC)

Maybe I'm missing something here, but there actually is an ongoing controversy as to whether Oswald, Mickey, and other cartoon characters are a continuation of the minstrel tradition. Is this being discussed someplace? Why is it "racism" to categorize these characters as "black fictional characters"? Jpgordon 19:52, 13 Sep 2004 (UTC)
Becuase: 1-the author doesn't discuss this issue, just puts it there baldly. 2-doesn't discuss anything. 3-calls them "inkblot" or "inkblotted", which is racist. 4-there is no justification for doing so. RickK 20:20, Sep 13, 2004 (UTC)
  • 68.7.74.150 inexplicably keeps removing "Cartoonists" category from Carla Speed McNeil despite repeated requests for an explanation ([6] [7] [8]), needlessly changed "science fiction" to "sci-fi", and altered the description for Category:Cartoonists to remove an appropriate inter-category link. Please report vandalism at the top of the "Current alerts" list below. Please only use this page for repeated malicious vandalism, not for one-off edits, or newbie tests. Except in cases of vandalbot or other rapid-fire attacks, please warn users and wait for further vandalism before listing them here. Do not list non-vandalism.

Please list the IP address or user name, pages touched and damage done. Sign your name using ~~~~ after your report. Put the person's IP or username in the edit summary.

If it cannot be resolved that way, there is a clearly defined dispute resolution procedure to resolve contentious issues. See Wikipedia:Dispute resolution for more. -- from Wikipedia:Blocking_policy#Unpopular_opinions

I've done three reverts already (and User:TUF-KAT has done one) and I've asked plenty of questions about their additions and deletions in the Talk page, but there's been no response so far. -- [[User:Ran|ran (talk)]] 20:21, Sep 13, 2004 (UTC)

  • 68.7.74.150 inexplicably keeps removing "Cartoonists" category from Carla Speed McNeil despite repeated requests for an explanation ([9] [10] [11]), needlessly changed "science fiction" to "sci-fi", and altered the description for Category:Cartoonists to remove an appropriate inter-category link. Yet another recent re-appearance of "Entmoots of Trolls". Propose range-blocking be re-instated.
  • Yep, it's the Halifax area (hlfx59-1-56.ns.sympatico.ca) of Stentor's network (ALIANT-TEL-142-177 = 142.177.0.0/16) -- The Anome 23:09, 10 Sep 2004 (UTC)
    • Range-blocking of Halifax re-instated, with time set to "indefinite" -- The Anome 20:15, 14 Sep 2004 (UTC)
I've removed the range block. Are we going to block 300000+ people to enforce a ban on one unwelcome user? Assuming they are editing in bad faith and are trying to subvert Wikipedia, they seem to be succeeding through our own efforts. Guanaco 20:27, 14 Sep 2004 (UTC)
      • Just for information (I won't be arguing for or against the ban), I watch RC regularly and I've been checking for 142.177.X.X IPs in few last days. There appears to be one anon who frequently edits from changing IPs in this range, makes some decent contributions and is likely not EofT. If we block the range, he might get blocked as well. Apart from him and EofT, I haven't noticed any anon edits from this range. Andris 16:05, Sep 16, 2004 (UTC)
    • Unfortunately, this is the only way that we can enforce the hard ban of EoT, without endless manual chasing, or resorting to complaints to his provider or legal action. EoT is indefatigable once started. Unfortunately, it's better to block all Stentor customers in Halifax from editing, rather than subject Wikipedia's audience of several hundred million to EoT's output. I presume that 300,000 is the whole population of Halifax, however the block was much smaller than that, and presumably not everyone in Halifax uses the same ISP: even if we were to block the entire 142.177.0.0/16, we would only be blocking 65,536 IP addresses; as it was, the block was carefully crafted to only cover the minimum possible range of about 14,000 IP addresses that EoT "roams" across. If this creates a problem for this group of Stentor customers in Halifax, perhaps Stentor could consider looking at their own AUP for their users, and consider the commercial/legal costs and benefits? Perhaps the warning message should be "You are blocked from editing because of the behavior of one particular Stentor user in the Halifax area. To fix this, please mail abuse@aliant.net, citing this message." Perhaps we should also consider the relevance or otherwise of section 301.2 of the Canadian Criminal Code? -- The Anome 13:29, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)
      • "Blocks may be imposed in instances where threats have been make or actions performed (including actions outside the Wikipedia site) which expose other Wikipedia editors to political, religious or other persecution by government, their employer or any others. In such a case a ban for a period of time may be applied immediately by any sysop upon discovery. Sysops applying such sanctions should confidentially notify the members of the Arbitration Committee and Jimbo Wales of what they have done and why. See No personal attacks." -- from Wikipedia:Blocking_policy#Personal_attacks_which_place_users_in_danger
      • Is encouraging complaints to the anon's ISP, and possibly invoking the Canadian Criminal Code, contrary to this policy? -- orthogonal 14:06, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)
      • I'm suggesting an alternative to range-blocking, not implementing it. Clearly, we should not do this without serious consideration. However, you might want to recall why this user was blocked in the first place, which was explicitly for rather serious "threats". As I see it possible means for response to recalcitrant hard-blocked users are: (1) exhortation [failed] (2) blocking [see above] (3) recourse to ISP AUPs. By the way, we don't have to "invoke the Canadian Criminal Code". It invokes itself when someone does something contrary to it. Are you saying that we are not allowed to discuss these things here? -- The Anome 15:07, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC) (updated)
        • Of course, if you have a better idea for a practical solution, I'd love to hear it. -- The Anome 14:44, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)
        • No, of course we are allowed to discuss this. And we should discuss it. Although perhaps on a general policy page where more users might see it. I just wanted to note that doing it might leave you open to an immediate block -- and I wouldn't want to see that happen to you. -- orthogonal 15:06, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I'd like to assume good faith, but it's difficult. User:211.28.227.159 is altering the population figures (and some other stats) of many countries, reverting accurate figures to outdated figures. Doesn't have a talk page . Moriori 20:18, Sep 10, 2004 (UTC)

  • I checked his edits and they precisely match 2004 (the most recent) CIA World Factbook. The only exception is New Zealand which you reverted. There he has taken data from an earlier 2003 CIA Factbook, possibly by mistake. I think there is no vandalism here. Andris 21:59, Sep 10, 2004 (UTC)
  • OK, fine, but could be urged to give an edit summary when amending an important stat. Also because the stats he gave "precisely match 2004 (the most recent) CIA World Factbook" that doesn't mean they are accurate. CIA Factbook isn't always right. Anyone that does that should have all their edits reverted. We surely don't need that kind of problem to deal with. PhilHibbs 18:29, 1 Sep 2004 (UTC)
On the contrary: I don't want to swing the axe before I've gotten the whole story, but what it looks like is that this character is not a true vandal but, rather, someone who ignores the concept of NPOV. Referring to the owners of Tom Cat on Tom and Jerry as a 'yuppie couple' is by no means NPOV, and yet they were indeed partially hidden characters. Yeah, tell me it's not vandalism. RickK 23:19, Sep 7, 2004 (UTC)
Have you tried politely talking to this user about Danielle Steele? Please assume good faith and try to follow our blocking policy. Guanaco 23:22, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)
This person is not a newbie. They are obviously aware of the discussion on Redirects for deletion, they know how to do redirects, they know how to insert templates, they know how to log in and create a user account. This is strictly trolling. RickK 23:27, Sep 7, 2004 (UTC)
And they obviously know how to list someone on VIP. RickK 23:30, Sep 7, 2004 (UTC)
You're right; it's probably a troll, so let's just leave them alone and revert the bad and keep the good. Don't feed the trolls. Guanaco 23:40, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] 206.10.218.1

Overwrote Wikipedia today -- Warned against vandalism. On 3rd September overwrote Thomas Jefferson and Football, and was warned against vandalism. On 29th April vandalised Wikipedia:Perfect stub article, Watertown, Minnesota (4 times), Sport, and Baseball, and was warned against vandalism. IP address belongs to Minnesota Regional Network (mr.net). Because of repeated warnings, barred for 28 days. -- Arwel 22:00, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I believe it's the same person as the hard-banned User:Paul Vogel.
It's probably not Vogel—none of these IPs have edited his favorite articles (cosmotheism, classical pantheism, pan-atheism, etc.) and the writing style is different. —No-One Jones 22:24, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Adding sneaky vandalism to various pages. I know what to revert on List of unseen characters because it's not the first time he has done it there, but I'm unsure of his other actions. He tends to do some useful work between his vandalism, so his contributions should be checked very thoroughly. --Conti| 13:31, Aug 1, 2004 (UTC)

I say we keep a close eye out, but it might be that all User 64.165 etc. needs is a prod in the right direction. -Litefantastic 14:59, 16 Sep 2004 (UTC)
