Closing this. Something may have to be done, but this user has been around for a very long time, and doesn't appear to be linkspamming, but just has a promotional userpage that should probably be deleted. I'm going to bring this up on WP:ANI. The username is just one facet of the situation, and not even the most important one. I will subst in this debate there for review; feel free to participate. [edit] MathsIsFun (talk · contribs)
I feel this is a promotional username - the userpage makes clear that this is the owner of a website called mathsisfun.com. Much of the user's contributions seem to be additions of links to his site in various math-related articles (I removed over 40 links this morning out of spam and COI concerns). The Wikipedia article on the website is Math Is Fun.RJASE1 Talk 17:22, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- This username per se isn't wrong... but the behavior most certainly is. Is this the correct venue for discussing editor behavior? (→Netscott) 17:24, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- The username seams to be promotional for http://www.mathsisfun.com/, promotional usernames are against WP:U Ryanpostlethwaite contribs/talk 17:29, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

- Yes but if the user did not engage in promotional behavior would that provision of WP:U still apply? (→Netscott) 17:31, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
-
- Yes, it's still promotional unless it's generic Ryanpostlethwaite contribs/talk 17:33, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

- Well I think that name is as generic as say a username like User:AlgebraIsFun. It is not as though the username is User:MathIsFun.com or something. Essentially what I'm getting at is sans the behavior we wouldn't be here discussing this. (→Netscott) 17:36, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

- So it's a company name, thats admits it has chosen the name to span wikipedia with, but you don't think the username is a problem? Ryanpostlethwaite contribs/talk 17:38, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
- This is a case where [potentially problematic username] + [edit history] = [promotional username]. It could be generic, but not in this instance. (In the spirit of recent MfD discussion, I am no longer expressing my opinion with !votes at RFCN). Flyguy649talkcontribs 17:39, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
