Administrators closing instructions for Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names:

  • Allow a discussion to run at least 24 hours (maximum 5 days) unless:
    • The user in question agrees to change their name
    • The case meets speedy criteria or is a blatant violation
    • There is a clear consensus to allow or disallow the username in question
  • To close a case, place {{subst:rfcn top}} below the header, with the reason after the pipe, and {{subst:rfcn bottom}} at the end.
  • If result is block, block the username and notify the user in question.
  • Leave the case on WP:RFCN for a few days so users may see the results
  • When removing the case from WP:RFCN, remove the closing tags and archive it on the project's archive pages
  • If result is allow, notify the user in question.
  • If a user in question ceases editing, it is not usually necessary to block their account.
