Per discussion at WP:ANI#Wikignosis_block_for_legal_threat I am submitting this here since consensus has not established that WP:DUCK applies. The account's main activity has been to abuse WP:BLP while writing "per Jimbo Wales" in edit notes. I indef blocked on 20 April as a probable JB196 sockpuppet/meatpuppet due to policy abuse at wrestling topics. Received a polite request for unblock afterward and decided to give the benefit of the doubt. Disruption promptly resumed and the account got indef blocked for borderline legal threats regarding Daniel Brandt. That block got upheld upon appeal, but another sysop reversed it during the noticeboard discussion and now he's blocked for a week for incivility. Request: would you please clarify your level of confidence, and its basis? "Likely" rather than "Confirmed", and based on "similar... patterns" rather than a matching IP (an actual "checkuser"), seems a less certain result than I'd expected. Do the IPs match, or not? If not, then what actually makes this "likely", and with what degree of probability (closer to 51% or 99.99%)? -- Ben ^TALK/_HIST 17:22, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

After going through them, I don't see the similarity, past having disputes about editing policies -- which is not uncommon. Editing topics and actions: MyWikiBiz was openly out to make a profit by adding corporate-related content, WikiGnosis has deleted what seemed to be WP:BLP violations in articles on individuals, arguing against defamation on ethical and policy grounds. Editing styles: MyWikiBiz often spoke of himself in the first person plural, not so WikiGnosis (that I saw). Self descriptions: MyWikiBiz's press release says he is in Pennsylvania and his posted photo shows a man in his 30s or possibly early 40s*, WikiGnosis speaks of an upbringing in the 1950s Midwest. Granted these might conceivably be feigned differences to disguise identity, at least they are differences and not similarities. So what in the editing histories is similar? Durova's previous suggestion was that WikiGnosis was a sock of JB196. (Apparently the idea is that he must be a sock of somebody, because he was somewhat familiar with Wikipedia policies by the time he started posting. But maybe he just took RTFM to heart.) He was blocked for that, and then unblocked as apparently not a JB196 sock after all. Now he's blocked as a MyWikiBiz sock instead, based on this "Likely". From here it looks an awful lot like fishing through possible sockmasters until one isn't eliminated, but RFCU doesn't do that, so I must be seeing it wrong. Please tell me there was an actual non-trivial similarity and what it was, so that I can rest my uneasy mind from this puzzlement. Thanks! -- Ben ^TALK/_HIST 04:53, 30 April 2007 (UTC)

While 38-year old MyWikiBiz lives in Pennsylvania, WikiGnosis uploaded his own photo of the golf course at The Villages, "a 55+ retirement community in central Florida", which fits his "1950's Midwestern upbringing". Does checkuser in any way contradict the stated locations? -- Ben ^TALK/_HIST 07:50, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
