Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Lapsed Pacifist/Evidence

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Anyone, whether directly involved or not, may add evidence to this page. Please make a header for your evidence and sign your comments with your name.

When placing evidence here, please be considerate of the arbitrators and be concise. Long, rambling, or stream-of-conciousness rants are not helpful.

As such, it is extremely important that you use the prescribed format. Submitted evidence should include a link to the actual page diff; links to the page itself are not sufficient. For example, to cite the edit by Mennonot to the article Anomalous phenomenon adding a link to Hundredth Monkey use this form: [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Anomalous_phenomenon&diff=5587219&oldid=5584644] [1].

This page is not for general discussion - for that, see talk page.

Please make a section for your evidence and add evidence only in your own section. Please limit your evidence to a maximum 1000 words and 100 diffs, a much shorter, concise presentation is more likely to be effective. Please focus on the issues raised in the complaint and answer and on diffs which illustrate behavior which relates to the issues.

If you disagree with some evidence you see here, please cite the evidence in your own section and provide counter-evidence, or an explanation of why the evidence is misleading. Do not edit within the evidence section of any other user.

Be aware that the Arbitrators may at times rework this page to try to make it more coherent. If you are a participant in the case or a third party, please don't try to refactor the page, let the Arbitrators do it. If you object to evidence which is inserted by other participants or third parties please cite the evidence and voice your objections within your own section of the page. It is especially important to not remove evidence presented by others. If something is put in the wrong place, please leave it for the arbitrators to move.

The Arbitrators may analyze evidence and other assertions at /Workshop. /Workshop provides for comment by parties and others as well as arbitrators. After arriving at proposed principles, findings of fact or remedies voting by Arbitrators takes place at /Proposed decision. Only Arbitrators may edit /Proposed decision.

LP regularly adds in POV additions, subtle word changes and POV language pushing political agendas to Irish articles, ignoring appeals to stop, demands from multiple users to stop, bans for breaching 3RR. In Northern Ireland, elements of both communities use POV terminology both to push their own political agenda and to send a "fuck you" message to the other. LP is one of the worst offenders on WP. For example, because elements of both communities use their own POV language to describe the place (Unionists use 'Ulster', Republicans 'The Six Counties' etc) WP follows a strict policy of only using the legal name, Northern Ireland and no POV alternative. LP has spent months deleting references to Northern Ireland and slotting in his own political agenda-pushing replacements, for example [2], [3] [4], [5], [6], He deliberately changes Loyalist (fringe working class Unionists associated with violence) to Unionist (the mainstream community rarely linked to violence) to provoke and offend Unionist Wikipedians [7], adds in unsourced wild claims [8], adds in propaganda for one party into articles [9] or heavy POV editorialising [10], miscategorises other people's edits as 'blanking' in edit summaries. Other examples of his edits include [11], [12], [13] [14], [15]. (Even while I was writing this, he produced this POV edit.[16]) Various articles have become bogged down in edit wars caused by his POVing.[17], [18], [19]

Lapsed Pacifist engages in constant edit warring across many pages. A review of just one period of his edits is revealing.

His notivation for such edit warring can be seen in the following provocative edit summaries: "rv, for the hell of it" "Inserting outrageous POV".

This edit warring and POV pushing has now gone on for a year. In most cases it is him against all other users, Irish and non-Irish alike. He ignores NPOV, balance, source requirements, civility and the 3RR rule to push his agenda, and in the process offends users and turns articles into POV polemics. Or even worse he sneaks in carefully phrased changes that to the outsider seem innocent but which to those who know the factual background deliberately mislead the reader and create a deliberately misleading impression of the evidence. After a year of this farce Irish users have run out of patience with his behaviour and taken the ultimate step of asking the arbcom to intervene to stop what has been going on.

One final point I have noticed. Lapsed Pacifist has waged edit wars despite warnings, blockings, repeat blockings, etc. Users have noticed a distinct political agenda to the his edits. Having ignored all warnings and blocks, the moment he was informed about a RfA he suddenly, dramatically, and in an unprecedented manner, disappeared from WP and has not edited since. Given that fact, one cannot help but wonder if the person in question was in fact an employee or close associate of a political party or politican and that their remarkable and sudden disappearance was caused by a fear that an arbcom examination might draw attention to that association. In other words, a fear of being rumbled, and of drawing criticism to their party, led to the sudden flight from WP. (The political party their edits leaned to has a history in Ireland of having plants in organisations to try to influence the organisation to support that party or be at least less hostile to it. Wikipedia itself has been the target of organised attempts by outside organisations to influence its content.) LP's sudden disappearance the moment an investigation started is highly suspicious to say the least, every bit as suspicious as his edits. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 01:34, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
