Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Iasson/Evidence
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Anyone, whether directly involved or not, may add evidence to this page. Please make a header for your evidence and sign your comments with your name.
When placing evidence here, please be considerate of the arbitrators and be concise. Long, rambling, or stream-of-conciousness rants are not helpful.
As such, it is extremely important that you use the prescribed format. Submitted evidence should include a link to the actual page diff; links to the page itself are not sufficient. For example, to cite the edit by Mennonot to the article Anomalous phenomenon adding a link to Hundredth Monkey use this form: [http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Anomalous_phenomenon&diff=0&oldid=5584644] [1].
This page is not for general discussion - for that, see talk page.
Please make a section for your evidence and add evidence only in your own section. Please limit your evidence to a maximum 1000 words and 100 diffs, a much shorter, concise presentation is more likely to be effective. Please focus on the issues raised in the complaint and answer and on diffs which illustrate behavior which relates to the issues.
If you disagree with some evidence you see here, please cite the evidence in your own section and provide counter-evidence, or an explanation of why the evidence is misleading. Do not edit within the evidence section of any other user.
Be aware that the Arbitrators may at times rework this page to try to make it more coherent. If you are a participant in the case or a third party, please don't try to refactor the page, let the Arbitrators do it. If you object to evidence which is inserted by other participants or third parties please cite the evidence and voice your objections within your own section of the page. It is especially important to not remove evidence presented by others. If something is put in the wrong place, please leave it for the arbitrators to move.

[edit] Evidence presented by Humblefool
[edit] Jan 2005
- 07:46, 13 Jan 2005 [2] [3] [4] [5]
- Iasson votes to keep South African Art Music, and adds his own voting rules to be applied to the rest of the votes as well, not in accordance with general VfD policy.
- 12:40, 14 Jan 2005 [6]
- Iasson votes to keep Consensus Reality, and adds his own voting rules to be applied to the rest of the votes as well, not in accordance with general VfD policy.
- Jan 9 2005 - Jan 16 2005 [7]
- The article in question was created by a anonymous user widely suspected to be (both now and at the time) Iasson. Although he denied the fact, the article was a list of peole who had voted on VfD - not something that too many anons care about!
- 17:18, 20 Jan 2005 [8]
- Iasson changes the Deletion Policy using multiple edits. SimonP reverts his changes twice.
- 12:14, 14 Dec 2004 [9]
- Changes to the Admin del. guide. Reverted by multiple users.
[edit] Sockpuppets and IP addresses
- User:Lasson - Blocked as sockpuppet by Jayjg. [10]
- 146.124.141.250 [11]
- The block of 62.38.* [12]
- 213.16.* [13]
[edit] Article creation
[edit] User:Faethon
- This user appeared soon after Iasson "left" and attempted a different tack: public accounts.Whan Wikipedia users began to change the freely given passwords for these accounts, as they saw them as a form of "plausable deniability" for vandalism, he took up his case with the adminastrator's noticeboard with little result. Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard#Please_help_me.21. The accounts are now blocked on sight as "stolen".
[edit] Evidence presented by Deathphoenix
[edit] User:Acestorides and others from the List of Greeks
These users appeared when it became obvious that the various Faethon accounts were being easily detected and blocked. His user page indicates a slightly more complicated method of finding his other "public" accounts, but still noticeably in the style of Faethon. Subsequent accounts would be named according to alphabetical order from the List of Greeks.
Faethon and the others deny being Iasson, but For the purpose of dispute resolution when there is uncertainty whether a party is one user with sockpuppets or several users with similar behavior they may be treated as one user with sockpuppets. I believe these users exhibit similar behaviour to Iasson.
Notable user activities are as follows:
- Acestorides (talk · contributions) made a few dubious edits to the Science and History of Science articles before getting the password changed: [19] [20] [21]
- Acrotatus (talk · contributions) made similar dubious edits to Scientific method, Black hole information paradox, and Physical law before getting the password changed: [23] [24] [25] [26] [27] [28] [29] [30] [31]
- Acusilaus (talk · contributions) made similar dubious edits to Physical law, Black hole information paradox: [32] [33] [34] [35] [36]
- A deceptive link to his version of Physical law when other users were reverting his edits: [37]
- Adrianus (talk · contributions) put up some polls in the same style as Iasson: [38] [39]
- Aelius Aristides (talk · contributions) states his desire to create a "Faethon public account policy" in the main article space: [40]
- Aeneas Tacticus (talk · contributions) denies he is Iasson, and also indicates that he enjoys all the attention (a sign of a troll): [41]
- Aeropus II of Macedon (talk · contributions) (17:19, 24 Mar 2005) made an unsigned vote on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/The Tetragrammaton in the Bible, which is against his injunction. [42]
[edit] Iasson and some more polls
Although the arbitrators are probably seeing these first hand, I present the following evidence that Iasson is disrupting his own arbitration case by imposing his own rules and "peculiar polling".
- Iasson creates another "peculiar poll", this time on his RfArb talk page. A quick check of the history shows that Iasson takes his poll very seriously.
- It appears that he wants his own arbitration case to be decided upon using his own rules.
- See Scott's evidence on 23:49, Mar 20, 2005 for Iasson's rules.
[edit] Evidence presented by Michael Snow
Both the Faethon accounts and the "Ancient Greek" accounts (Adrianus et al.) were involved in conducting a nonsensical poll and debate at Talk:Vandalism, which they tried to advertise by listing the poll on the Vandalism article itself. (See history). A number of different accounts are involved, both in the history and on the talk page, as the passwords were regularly altered once the account was revealed.
I argued there that we have an implicit policy against public passwords based on the past handling of so-called role accounts (User:Mediator et al.), Tim Starling's intervention in dealing with the breached password security of User:The Trolls of Navarone, and the handling of the CheeseDreams situation. If the Arbitration Committee accepts this case, I believe it should make a finding that this is, in fact, established policy and practice, and order the blocking of all accounts whose password security is breached. --Michael Snow 04:11, 18 Mar 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Evidence presented by Scott Burley
- 01:18, Dec 14, 2004 [43]
- Iasson votes to keep Wikipedia:The toilet because "its funny". He later (as an anon) changes this vote to Delete, and adds his own voting rules.
- 02:24, Dec 14, 2004 [44] [45] [46]
- Iasson changes Wikipedia:Deletion policy several times without discussing his changes. He is reverted three times.
- 04:14, Dec 14, 2004 [47]
- Iasson edits Wikipedia:Deletion guidelines for administrators without discussing his changes. He is reverted.
- 09:13, Dec 14, 2004 [48]
- Iasson votes to keep Creation vs. evolution debate using his own voting rules.
- 00:29, Dec 22, 2004 [49]
- Iasson votes to keep Sint-Joris-Winge using his own voting rules.
- VfD votes like the preceding two were made for the rest of December, and in a handful of cases in January.
- 06:44, Jan 12, 2005 [50] [51] [52]
- Iasson edits Wikipedia:Deletion guidelines for administrators without discussing his changes (including one edit as User:Lasson). He is reverted three times.
- 09:18, Jan 20, 2005 [53] [54]
- Iasson edits Wikipedia:Deletion policy without discussing his changes. He is reverted twice.
- 04:36, Jan 26, 2005 [55]
- Iasson posts to Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Average rule: "And I am saying to you that, for now on, I am going to cast peculiar votes in all proposed for deletion articles. It is finnaly clear to me that your Vfd policy is against NPOV, and as long as I am a strong advocate of NPOV I want to destroy anything that is against it. Be prepared, my peculiar votes are going to flood your POV Vfd policy and procedure, until an administrator bans me."
- 23:49, Mar 20, 2005 [56] [57] [58]
- Iasson attempts to change to voting rules on the proposed decision page for this case. He is reverted three times.
- 23:24, Mar 24, 2005 [59]
- User:Lakis2, claiming to be a public account unrelated to Faethon, makes edits this RFAR complaining about elitism in the arbitration process. This is the only edit from this account, indicating that this may be another Faethon sockpuppet.
[edit] Evidence presented by Thryduulf
[edit] RfC
- 02:38, 15 Jan 2005
- user:Humblefool opens an RfC against Iasson [60]
- 11:00, 15 Jan 2005
- I certify the RfC and it becomes accepted [61]
- many many timestamps between 08:23, 17 Jan 2005 and 13:57, 28 Jan 2005 at Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Iasson and between 17:36, 20 Jan 2005 and 09:06, 2 Mar 2005 at Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment/Iasson (his first and last edits to the page in both cases)
- Iasson refuses to stop his activities, desptite the overwhelming consensus against him. Note also the number of polls with and about his "peculiar" voting rules.
[edit] Edits to description of RfC on Main RfC page
[edit] 20th Jan 2005
- 14:08
- Iasson alters the allegations against him in the description of his RfC [62]

- 02:48
- Korath adds a note to the RfC about Iasson's changes to the allegations. [64]
- 06:20
- Iasson reverts Korath's revert on the main RfC page. [65]
- 06:23
- 06:52
- Iasson edits the allegations again (not a revert as the changes are different). [67]
- 06:53
- Iasson makes further edits to the allegations to make them similar to the version he wanted earlier. (It should be noted that a series of small edits is very characteristic of Iasson's editing style). [68]
- 06:53
- Fvw reverts both edits by Iasson. [69]
- 07:04
- Iasson edits the allegations yet again, effectively a revert of Fvw's changes, but slight changes in the formating suggest he re-wrote his changes rather than going back to a previous version of the page. It is possible that Iasson's other reverts were done this way also, but whatever the method the net effect is the same. [70]
- 07:07
- Fvw reverts Iasson's again. [71]
- 07:27
- Iasson responds to Korath's comments on the Rfc, saying that he will continue to edit the allegations until they are NPOV. [72]

[edit] Questioning legality of ArbCom decision in the CheeseDreams2 case
- 09:28, 9 Mar 2005
- user:Faethon41 inserts comments about the legality of an ArbCom decision onto the Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/CheeseDreams 2 page, a few days after the case was closed. [86]
- 13:49, 9 Mar 2005
- I moved these comments to Wikipedia talk:Requests for arbitration. [87] [88]
[edit] meta
- see his Meta user page (I know the arbcom has no jurisdiction over events there, but the evidence I feel is relevant to his behaviour here) for evidence of how he feels about being blocked.
- also see m:Meta:Requests for deletion, especially [89] which got him banned for 15 days, [90], [91]
- see also m:Association of Inclusionist Wikipedians
- see also m:Talk:Association of Deletionist Wikipedians#Delete Deletionists Association
[edit] misc
- 11:38, 21 Jan 2005
- 02:33, 22 Jan 2005
- Xtra refutes this accusation. [93]
- 17:07, 21 Jan 2005
- It is now customary to strikethrough all the peculiar comments on VfDs etc that Iasson, etc make, leaving only the vote (where one can been clearly found). This arose out of my doing so in one of his VfDs. I haven't located the relevant diff yet, but will search for it when I get time.
- see User:Sjorford/Playpen#It's the Faethon Family Smile Time Variety Hour! for a list of all the Faethon and some of the ancient greek accounts registered. Not all of them were created by him, with some created to try and stop him and others as a parody.
- see User talk:Iasson for the number of attempts at communication that have failed.
- As of Thryduulf 15:45, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC) Iasson has made the following contributions from that account:
- (articles) - 7 (most reverted)
- talk: - 25 (all to 5 now archived VfD discussions)
- User: - 36 (32 to User:Iasson, 4 to User:Humblefool)
- User talk: - 17 (6 to User talk:Iasson, 5 to User talk:Humblefool/Archive 1)
- Wikipedia: - 327 (to Wikipedia:Deletion policy, Wikipedia:Deletion guidelines for administrators, Wikipedia:Preliminary Deletion/Vote2, Wikipedia:Village pump (policy), Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Iasson (the majority), 2 edits to Wikipedia:WikiMoney accounts, 1 to Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Iasson, 2 featured article canditates and the vast majority that aren't to his RfC are to 18 different VfD discussions (with lots of edits to almost all of them) [+5 now in talk: gives 23 VfDs])
- Wikipedia Talk: - 29 (all but 1 to either Wikipedia talk:Votes for deletion or Wikipedia talk:Requests for comment/Iasson)
- To me this doesn't paint the picture of a user interested in contributing to the goals of Wikipedia.
[edit] Evidence presented by Gazpacho
[edit] Interference with arbitration procedure
- by tampering with the Proposed Decision page for this case:
[edit] Evidence presented by Knowledge Seeker
[edit] User:Aeropus I of Macedon
- Reverted David Gerard's mention of public accounts on Wikipedia:Blocking policy [99]
- After Korath reverted, he reverted for the second time [100]
- After I reverted, he reverted for the third time [101] (I then restored the section).
[edit] User:Aeropus II of Macedon
- Reverted for the fifth time [102]
- Reverted for the sixth time [103]
- Made dubious edits again to Black hole information paradox (see Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Iasson/Evidence#User:Acestorides and others from the List of Greeks above: ([104])
- Reverted Wikipedia:Blocking policy for seventh time (16:15 24 March 2005). [105].
- This point of evidence added here rather than in my own section above for ease of context. Thryduulf 17:41, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Suggests that he is not here to improve the encyclopedia: "I am against imposed common goals. A common goals should never be imposed, and creating an encyclopedia is an imposed goal." [106] (in response to my statement "I feel that creating an encyclopedia is our common goal here and that this unites us together. I don't understand how your public account would further that goal"). However, his comments on that page and his willingness to discuss this suggest that he does not intend deliberate vandalism and does have reasons for this, however misguided they may be.
