[edit] Slambo
final (26/0/0) ending 22:04 30 March 2005 (UTC)
One of our resident train enthusiasts, Slambo has added a lot of excellent material to Wikipedia (8000+ edits since last September, if you're counting). This includes helping to create several featured articles and regularly getting others on the "Did you know" section of the Main Page. He knows his way around and seems not to get into any serious conflicts. I think Wikipedia would benefit from giving him admin tools. --Michael Snow 22:04, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)

- Slambo has been a warrior on the rail-related pages - he has made at least a minor contribution to virtually every one, and has more or less single handedly created three feature articles that I know of - John Bull (locomotive), Franklin B. Gowen and Pioneer Zephyr. He is the undisputed king of Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains, and has been unfailingly courteous on talk pages Fawcett5 23:12, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Niteowlneils 23:51, 23 Mar 2005 (UTC). A thorough, collaborative, conscientious, content editor, much like User:Vaoverland--qualities that should make for a good admin. Certainly deserving of the convenience of the admin tools.
- A hard-working editor who has shown he can work with others. Rje 00:50, Mar 24, 2005 (UTC)

- Strong support. He is very honorable about respecting other people's work and has great organizational skills. An earned step with additional power which I am very confident will only be used to enhance WP. Vaoverland 02:22, Mar 24, 2005 (UTC)

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:
- 1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
- A.
- I've been regularly helping out on the Featured Article Candidates reviewing the articles that have been nominated and suggesting improvements where necessary (but I haven't had a chance to do so this week yet). I've also wandered through the Votes For Deletion process several times, both nominating and voting/commenting on nominations. Most often, though, I hit the Random Page link when I don't have a specific task and help to update/improve whatever article comes up.
- 2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
- A.
- Just over a month ago, I would have said John Bull (locomotive), but right now it's Pioneer Zephyr which is featured on the front page today. Both of these have reached featured status, the latter very quickly. With these articles, I have proven to myself that I can write well and I have encouraged myself to research and write more.
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and will deal with it in the future?
- A.
- There are two smallish issues that come to mind; they both have to do with article names. I objected to the page moves for articles such as Southern Railway (US) to Southern Railway (United States) as shown on Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (acronyms), and I initiated a move that has since been reverted for Amtrak Cascades to Cascades (passenger train), as discussed on Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains/Strategy#Amtrak Routes. In both cases, I deferred to the popular opinions. I did not feel that continuing would be worthwhile for me or for WP.
- I am reminded of one other incident. A page that I created (1795 in rail transport) was nominated for deletion on January 20. I entered my vote and supporting argument on the discussion page and waited. When I saw no other votes and no further action by February 10, I found that the nomination was never completed. I completed the nomination with my Keep vote following the process on the VFD page; the final outcome was to keep the page. The discussion is archived at Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/1795 in rail transport.
