Mr Senseless (talk · contribs) - This is strong vandal fighter. In fact, this user is already a volunteer at Wikipedia:Abuse reports, administrator tools would enable this user to further fight vandalism. GO-PCHS-NJROTC (talk) 21:24, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here:
I am absolutely honored :) Mister Senseless™ (Speak - Contributions) 15:51, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Questions for the candidate
Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. It is recommended that you answer these optional questions to provide guidance for participants:
- 1. What admin work do you intend to take part in?
- A: I am already active as a vandal fighter, and I intend to continue patrolling new pages, patrolling the user creation log, making contributions to AfD, writing and following up with abuse reports, etc... I feel that having the tools will make it easier to fight vandalism, deleting obvious nonsense, attack, and copyvio pages, blocking vandalism only accounts, etc... I will work to clear backlogs, close AfD discussions in line with consensus and will regularly patrol the administrator notice boards. I respect and will always work within Wikipedia policies and guidelines, and will not hesitate to get a second or third opinion in questionable cases. I have also done some work with fair-use and images with copyright problems, and having the tools will make it easier to remedy image copyright issues in the project.
- 2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
- A: I feel my best contributions are working with users at the help desk and welcoming new users on their talk page who have perhaps made a mistake with their first edit, or made a great first contribution. As a collaborative project, every user, new or old needs to feel that they can be a part of building the encyclopedia from day one, and I hope that's what I've been doing for new users. My mainspace edit count may be low, because I concentrate mostly on maintenance and vandal patrolling tasks, however, I've expanded and cleaned up several pages, a few examples are Federation Against Copyright Theft, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Image copyright (Germany), and The Pact (2006 documentary). I have started articles for The Time, The Place, and Hy-Line Cruises.
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- A: Unfortunately, when I first started on the project, I accused a user of sockpuppetry, incorrectly. I acted on a hunch and didn't assume good faith. It is something I sincerely regret to this day, I admitted I was wrong, apologized and learned from my mistake. I now don't accuse anyone of sockpuppetry unless the evidence is overwhelming. Other than that, I try not to let anyone get me down, especially when users are offended when their vanity page is deleted. I try to be a civil and polite as I can, point them to the relevant policy or policies and offer to discuss the situation. This usually has the best effect.
Optional questions from User:Dlohcierekim that he lifted form User:Benon who got them from Tawker, JoshuaZ, Rob Church, NSLE. They are 100% optional but may help myself or other voters decide. Some of these are not specifically related to your areas of interest. If I have already voted please feel free to ignore these questions though other editors might find them to be of use. You can also remove the questions you don't want to touch if you like.
- 4. You find out that an editor, who's well-known and liked in the community, has been using sockpuppets abusively. What would you do?

- 5. An editor asks you to mediate in a dispute that has gone from being a content dispute to an edit war (but not necessarily a revert war), with hostile language in edit summaries (that are not personal attacks). One involved party welcomes the involvement of an admin, but the other seems to ignore you. They have both rejected WP:RFC as they do not think it would solve anything. Just as you are about to approach the user ignoring you, another admin blocks them both for edit warring and sends the case to WP:RFAR as a third party. Would you respect the other admin's decisions, or would you continue to engage in conversation (over email or IRC) and submit a comment/statement to the RFAR? Let's say the ArbCom rejects the case. What would you do then?
-
- A-
- 6. If you could change any one thing about Wikipedia what would it be?
-
- A-
- 7. Under what circumstances would you indefinitely block a user without any prior direction from Arb Com?
-
- A-
- 8. Suppose you are closing an AfD where it would be keep if one counted certain votes that you suspect are sockpuppets/meatpuppets and would be delete otherwise. The RCU returns inconclusive, what do you do? Is your answer any different if the two possibilities are between no consensus and delete?
- A-
- 9. Do you believe there is a minimum number of people who need to express their opinions in order to reasonably close an AfD? If so, what is that number? What about RfDs and CfDs?
-
- A-
- 10. At times, administrators have experienced, or have been close to burnout due to a mixture of stress and conflict inherent in a collaborative web site of this nature. Do you feel able to justify yourself under pressure, and to not permit stress to become overwhelming and cause undesirable or confused behaviour?

- 11. Why do you want to be an administrator?

[edit] Discussion
[edit] Support
- Strong Support, this user is a strong vandal fighter who could further fight vandalism with "the tools", that's why I nominated him. GO-PCHS-NJROTC (talk) 16:39, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Oppose
- Not ready yet. A quick reading of User talk:Mr Senseless/Archive 1 shows candidate has not yet developed the knowledge/skill/judgment for adminship. Hasty deletion tagging Janujary3. There is sufficient context given to believe the subject will turn out to be notable. We don't all create adequate stubs on our first edit or two on the article. Over hasty PROD. A record label based in Colombia with sales in Mexico, Spain and the US is probably notable. A movie starring Alan Rickman is probably notable. Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Dorftrottel is just plain weird, but it also raises a question about judgment. Dlohcierekim 16:52, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose - I don't feel comfortable with someone who's only been on Wikipedia for 4 months becoming an admin, because to date candidate has shown poor judgement in some cases. More experience should help with that. Almost half of his edits have been to talk pages. I really don't see much in the way of admin skills yet. ArcAngel (talk) 17:10, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose - try again soon: while volunteering at WP:ABUSE is admirable after only 4 months, I'd suggest that you go slow for a bit. User:TreasuryTag/Sig2 17:28, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose - Just to soon, good vandal work but that is not all that is needed when it comes to admin work. Take adive from above and come back in 4-5 months and you will do just fine. Tiptoety talk 17:34, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Neutral
- Neutral I would like to encourage Mr Senseless to make more mainspace edits and to continue honing his skills in the realm of speedy deletion. I have see him do some excellent work in the latter. I would be happy to support him at some point in the future, as I believe has the potential to be a good administrator. Aramgar (talk) 17:35, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
