[edit] Meno25
Final (40/0/0); Ended Fri, 6 Apr 2007 21:23:25 UTC
Meno25 (talk · contribs) - I present Meno25, from Alexandria, Egypt, for adminship. Meno25 has been with us since April of 2006 and has amassed nearly 10,000 edits. The user has a single block, for one hour, from 15 November, 2006, due to a communication failure.
The first several months of editing, Meno25 jumped right on in to helping and unfortunately made some good faith mistakes. There were copy and paste moves that had to be fixed at the time, and the user made over 300 unnecessary redirects. I deleted the redirects after a team effort with the user to follow the {{db-self}} tagging. The user utilized the AutoWikiBrowser without fully realizing its potential for damage in its rapid editing, and the user immediately responded in a graceful manner to such mistakes. Meno25 admittedly wants the bit and has annoyed other users in doing good faith minor edits on a massive scale in the past. These complaints and the block were in November, four and a half months ago and were quickly rectified by the user. Meno25 knows Wikipedia policy now, and the user should have been able to clean up mistakes without assistance.
Despite these historical missteps, Meno25 would make good use of the tools. The user is an active archiver across many different talk pages (Mainspace and Wikipedia space) as well as other such maintenance- it would be nice if the buttons were there to take care of any page moves that cannot be completed without the delete function. There are other such instances where I believe that Meno25 could use the tools to the regular cleaning tasks the user does. Meno25 is non-combative, eager to learn/work with other users and is just an all around good hand to have. Meno25 would be a WikiGnome administrator, assisting in backlogs and other sysops functions as they crop up. I do not believe that Meno25 seeks the tools for any other reason. I think it is users like Meno25 who exemplify that adminship is no big deal and should not be treated as such before or after the bit. Admins are janitors, and Meno25 could use the mop and keys with trust. Teke 19:12, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

- Questions for the candidate
Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia in this capacity. Please take the time to answer a few generic questions to provide guidance for participants:
- 1. What sysop chores do you anticipate helping with?
- 2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any with which you are particularly pleased, and why?
- A: I am pleased generally with all my work in Wikipedia. I have made hundreds of vandalism reverts. I participated in establishing WikiProject Egypt. I am a regular contributer in WikiProject Physics. A list of all the articles I created can be found here. For example, I have written some very long lists as: List of titles of Ragol Al Mostaheel series and List of titles of Malaf Al Mostakbal series. However, I usually help with WikiGnome work.
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- A: No, not really. However, there is one incident that I admit I was wrong in it (the one mentioned above by Teke). I am here asking Wikipedia community for forgiveness. My only excuse is my good intentions. I didn't mean to harm Wikipedia. I just didn't know the policies well at that time. This motivated me to read and understand Wikipedia policies well. Following it, I underwent an editor review (found here) which helped me a lot. My editing history can be divided into three parts: April to November: Some mistakes as I didn't understand the policies well. November to January: I am OK but not ready for adminship yet and January to now: I am an experienced user. I can easily help other Wikipedians to correct their mistakes. Concerning the future, the most important thing is to assume good faith in other users and remain civil. Following the steps in WP:DR solves any dispute.

- Mistakes from 4 months ago? I can get over them. I see no reason to worry about previous minor missteps. Full support. John Reaves (talk) 20:19, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

- Support Absolutely. Meno25 is a user I had a lot of interactions with. Meno might have started off with some good faith mistakes but he has evolved into an experienced user and Wikipedian. He has done a good deal of gnomish work and, I believe, almost single handedly set up WikiProject Egypt and assessed its in-scope articles. He has been making some good efforts in vandalism fighting, a job he does very well. Overall, I believe he is a decent user with good experience and no problems, so let's give him a mop. - Anas talk? 20:56, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

- Support This user shows how one can learn from their mistakes; adminship doesn't require perfection from the start. Also, Teke, that was very well written nomination. Gutworth 02:01, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
