[edit] Kornfan71
FINAL (0/12/1); Ended, 15:35, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Kornfan71 (talk · contribs) - I'm most interested in the field of anti-vandalism, and being an admin would help me in many ways to work harder in anti-vandalism to better serve the Wikipedia community. I am involved in multiple WikiProjects, and have a good amount of knowledge of "WikiPolicy," but with my thirst for knowledge, I'm always willing to learn more about the policies and the administrator position, which I will be doing anyway over the next few days (to refresh my memory). Today (Oct. 9 UTC) is also the anniversary of my first edit (Yay!), making me a contributer for a year. Although many of you probably don't know me, and many of you will scoff and type "Oppose" at the sight of my edit count, I promise that I would make my best effort to help out in the community if given the opportunity to be an admin. Thanks! —Signed by KoЯnfan71 My Talk Sign Here! 00:09, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Questions for the candidate
Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. It is recommended that you answer these optional questions to provide guidance for participants:
- 1. What admin work do you intend to take part in?
- A: As I said above, I have loved working in the field of anti-vandalism, so I would be participating regularly in WP:AIV. In addition, I would step up my RC patrols, participate more in WikiProjects, give my input in RfAs and candidates for deletion, reviewing candidates for speedy deletion and deleting them when necessary, etc. Most of the above I will still do as a normal user anyway. Also, after honing my admin skills, I would enjoy helping out with the main page. The above is just a short list of what I would do, because listing everything would leave me to type quite a bit. I just wanted to give you all an idea of what I'd do.
- 2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
- A: I don't consider any of my normal edits to Wikipedia to be my "best contributions." I do, however, consider my anti-vandalism work in general to be my best contribution to the encyclopedia. I am still able to find time to make normal contributions to the encyclopedia. I'll bet that sometime I may "get into" an article enough to bring it up to at least a good article status.
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- A: When working with many anonymous users during RC patrol, I get angry at a few (but I don't express it to them or anyone else), and every now and then a few stress me out. I do get into teeny tiny little conflicts with some anonymous users occasionally, but I have always found a way to settle the dispute civilly. I don't usually have to deal with the stress, because I have more of a "It happened, and there's nothing I can do about it now. Move on." attitude, which works out quite well as far as not having/seriously reducing much of the stress I run into while talking to other users. I can't remember any incidents when I was not civil with a user with whom I got into a conflict. I can only recall 2 or 3 arguments I have had with any user, all of which were anonymous ones, and the conflicts sorted themselves out quite easily. As for how I will deal with it in the future, I plan to continue the way I do it now, unless multiple people suggest I change my ways, which will then make me consider a change.

[edit] Discussion
- The argument that if an editor has a high % of their edits to their userspace, they must not be experienced, is simply untrue. Many editors (including myself) frequently use the userspace for drafts prior to implementing them into articles. This can cause a high % of userspace edits to amass. I do not know if this is the case with this user, however this is something to take into consideration. Wikidudeman (talk) 14:40, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- I agree, but in tallying the top 10 pages edited in userspace, I get 641 edits to pages that are pretty much only about his userspace. User:Kornfan71/User Page, for example, has 84 edits, while User:Kornfan71/experiment has 143. It all adds up, and I can't see too much actual work being done. Now, that said, userspace editing can lead to the editor gaining a greater understanding of wiki markup; when mucking around in my Meta userspace, I learned how to implement much more complex tables and templates than I'd done before, and it's something I hadn't come across (at that point) in the main article space here or anywhere else.
As with all things, the numbers themselves aren't what we should be looking at, but the quality of the userspace edits; a bunch of fluff is one thing, but writing a userfied FA is another. EVula // talk // ☯ // 14:54, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

Support
Oppose
- Sorry but having 40% of your edits towards your userspace makes me wonder about the experience you have on the mainspace, or the encyclopedia in general. --DarkFalls talk 02:06, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- Weak Oppose (ec)You still seem a little inexperienced - e.g. this from June. While I imagine you've learned not to do that since then, I'd still like to see a little more in the way of main article edits. Will likely be happy to support in the future. Ronnotel 02:08, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- No real contribution to the mainspace, and insignificant amounts of non-template discussion on user talk pages. This is also not a great advertisment for the candidates' judgement. I do not believe this user has the experience necessary to be a good administrator. Daniel 02:12, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose Per Ronnotel and Daniel. Jmlk17 03:31, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose. Please don't take this as a No. Vandalism reverts are important, but if you want to be an administrator, you also might want to take a look at WP:XFD as well. Also, is your status section really nessary? I made a different account to manage that part though. Come back in a couple of months, and you'll have my support. --Hirohisat 紅葉 04:28, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose I think, you need more months to gain experience. As Hirohisat said, try to participate more at WP:XFD, that is a good place to learn the things. Good luck Carlosguitar 05:49, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose I'm seeing some good stuff from this user, like the 16 edits to AIV, but at this moment I do believe you are unsuitable for the mop as per reasons outlined above. Phgao 07:00, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose The fact that over one third of your edits are to your own pages means that we have only some 1,200 edits on which to judge your skill and understanding. Of these, very few are edits to Wikipedia or to Wikitalk. I feel that we need a greater demontration of fimiliarity with admin-related pages before granting the tools. I do note the 18 edits in AIV, but feel a greater contribution is appropriate. --Anthony.bradbury"talk" 09:09, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose Your lack of experience is a concern here. Please address the issues raised by other users and apply again after a few months. You have not made any real contributions to the mainspace as well. Lastly try to participate in more WP:XFD. --Siva1979Talk to me 10:46, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose As per Phgao .Sorry but please try again after a few months.Greater experience is needed.Good Luck.Pharaoh of the Wizards 13:44, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose - Erm, right, there are a number of issues here. This is never going to pass RfA because you need much more experience in all areas. You need to actively participate in Wikipedia space and Wiki-projects. You need some great article contributions too. It appears that you're article edit count is made up mainly of vandal reverts. You're vandal fighting is excellent, just branch out more. I don't think high userspace counts are too bad, it shows you take pride in your work (in a way), but the areas I've gone through need to also have high edit counts. Lradrama 14:37, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- Oppose - I'm going to oppose, per above. Not enough experience in my opinion. Please re-apply in a few more months after you have sufficient experience with various policies, writing articles, etc. Wikidudeman (talk) 15:32, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
Neutral
- Neutral, to avoid a cluster. The editor does not have enough experienece for me to judge character. He's not quite making it based on edit count, and not much in the way of Mainspace edits, as noted by others. Quite frankly, he does not have much in the way of work on AIV, XfD, etc. Please apply again in a few months, get some battle scars, and welcome some new users, so I can form a better opinion.
