[edit] Hurricanehink
Final (1/3/1) ended 16:24, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Icelandic Hurricane (talk · contribs) – Oh. I'm not sure what to say about (Hurricane)hink. He should've deserved adminship a while ago, but since he didn't, I'll do it as soon as possible. He's made over 6,200 edits as of about 4 days ago, and most of his edits are to articles and talk pages (only 168 edits to userpages). He has been around a long time, meaning he has experience. In addition, he has written vast amounts of articles, and quite good ones at that. Some other articles he has made FA, but not started. And probably the most prominent reason I nominated him is that he is helpful to those that need help. Most of my questions and issues are solved by him. I think he is ready for adminship and will make good use of it. Good luck! Icelandic Hurricane #12 11:19, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
- Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here:
Whoa! Never in a million years would I think of anyone nominating me! Though I'm caught a little off-guard, I accept, and thanks! Hurricanehink (talk) 15:20, 18 May 2006 (UTC)- Come to think of it, I know I do not have enough experience, and I would like to withdraw from the candidacy. I appreciate the comments, and rather than wasting your time for a likely no, I will try in the future to broaden my edits and wait until another time. Hurricanehink (talk) 16:24, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Support
Oppose
- Oppose - Although I can say outright that Hurricanehink's contributions to articles on meteorological phenomena is truly amazing, I find the lack of vandalism reverts (despite that being what he would love to do as an admin) disconcerting. Vandalism reversion can be done by anybody (even anons), and I believe Hurricanehink should have some experience with this before becoming an admin. Some experience with xFDs would also be desirable. Also, I am a little concerned with the answer to the first question: "I feel they should be punished", because warnings/blocks/bans should never be a punitive measure, but rather a preventative one. However, I will be happy to consider supporting in future. -- Tangotango 15:52, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
- Reluctant Oppose per TangoTango. It seems as though you have demonstrated some desire to help out on Wikipedia. However, as he/she said, your answer to the first question indicates a desire to participate in helping out with vandalism, but you have little participation in that arena. In addition, the range of contributions seems
fartoo narrow for me. All of your edits seem to relate to hurricanes and tropical storms (although they are good). Perhaps if you were to broaden your editing scope and participate in discussions, reverting vandalism, and other actions that relate to admin capabilities, I'll support. Try again in July. joturner 16:03, 18 May 2006 (UTC) - Oppose Per your answer to question #1. DGX 16:07, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
Neutral
- Neutral leaning towards support. I feel this user is an amazing contributor & is an asset to Wikipedia. Excellent edits to hurricanes & tropical storms. But the lack of vandalism reversion or any other janitorial work, makes me doubt if the user actually needs the mop. I would request Hurricanehink not to be discouraged by any of the oppose votes or comments. Many excellent contributors have been lost due to failed RFA's. Adminship is not the validation of your worth as a contributor. Do keep up the good work & try & get involved in other areas of Wikipedia & I'm sure you can make it in a month or two. Questions for the candidate
Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia in this capacity. Please take the time to answer a few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:
- 1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? Please check out Category:Wikipedia backlog, and read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.
- A: I would love to help with vandalism. There are too many users and anons that desicrate some awesome pages, and I feel they should be punished, within reason. I would try and become more involved in page deletion, moving, or redirects.
- OK, I didn't really mean punished, but rather warned. They should know that they made a mistake. I thought I dealt with vandalism a lot. Because I have every tropical cyclone article on my watch list, I have reverted vandalism a lot, as well as random vandalism fixing on other pages. Hurricanehink (talk) 16:18, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

- 2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
- A: Though I didn't start the article, I am most proud of the Hurricane Mitch article. I rewrote it from scratch, and after some serious research it is now an FA.
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- A: A user named E-Series asked me a lot of questions, located [Questiions|here]. I assumed he was a new user, so I answered all of his questions, located here. Soon after, his childish attitude started to aggrivate myself and other users, so I asked for a suggestion from an admin, User:NSLE. I feel I dealt with the situation appropriately, given how little I knew about him, and I will continue to assume good faith with any user who asks me something.
