[edit] furrykef

final (20/1/0) ending 23:30 April 25, 2005 (UTC)

furrykef has been a user since July 2003 and has over 2600 edits, with around 75% of them in the last 9 months. He's active on talk pages and in the Wikipedia namespace, with contributions ranging from VFD to manual-of-style-related stuff. I've also noticed him fixing vandalism on articles on my watchlist. He says he doesn't use edit summaries as much as he should, but a cursory look as his contributions reveals he's being modest. I feel that his seniority and the breadth of his contributions make him an ideal candidate. Additionally, he is a sysop on Wikibooks and has experience, both technical and non-technical, with many other wiki projects. CryptoDerk 23:29, Apr 18, 2005 (UTC)

  5. User has good knowledge of wiki software, responds intelligently to questions posed on user talk and article talk pages, and gives out guitar lessons on his talk page? Sounds good to me. --DropDeadGorgias (talk) 16:36, Apr 19, 2005 (UTC)
  6. Support. Didn't find anything to object. I can judge SW related edits and these are is acceptable. Some edit summaries are insufficient. Finally, thanks for your help with vandals. Pavel Vozenilek 17:35, 19 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:

1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
A. I'd probably mostly do boring stuff like knocking redirects out of the way when moving pages. I could assist in arbitrating edit wars and such when I find them, but that's pretty rare (though somebody could pull them to my attention if they like). In short, I expect to use my powers only when I have to, although I probably will look through the requests for sysop attention (well, the pages linked to from there) and such from time to time.
2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
A. Usually when I write, as opposed to fix what I come across, it's usually about something pretty obscure while still perhaps notable. So I might be more pleased at that fact than any of the individual articles. I suppose I'm also proud of the large number of typographical errors I have corrected at Wikipedia, though I'm usually annoyed at the errors themselves ;)
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and will deal with it in the future?
A. No, I rarely come across editing conflicts, much less become involved, nor has anybody ever taken issue with me. I expect that should somebody try to pick a fight with me, I'd probably just ignore them (unless they start interfering with other things). I do occasionally feel stress at Wikipedia, often when I correct one typo too many for the day, and I might write something (never anything personal or directed at anybody in particular) to indicate this in the edit summary -- like "learn to spell". This has happened much less often recently and I usually just leave the summary blank when I feel like doing this. Other than that I never really became irate at Wikipedia except with this issue over templates in MediaWiki 1.3 which I've long since gotten over. And I certainly keep any issues I may have separate from actual Wikipedia content -- I take that side of it very seriously.
