[edit] Deon555
Final: (0/9/1) Ended 06:30, 2006-07-16 (UTC)
Deon555 (talk · contribs) – I understand that I am slightly new - on this Wiki, but I have plenty of experience, in my opinion, with Wikipedia.
I do Recent Changes Patrol, New Changes Patrol, I monitor high-profile pages, espech Wikipages (including the Main Page). I am familiar with many Wiki features, like:
- Reverting Vandalism
- Rollback
- Banning and Blocking Policys - incuding things like Username policy etc
- Warning Vandals
I have Popups, Godmode-light (Rollback), RC Filter, etc and other 'advanced tools'.
In closing: I believe Adminship/sysop status should not be given out on the basis of edit count. There are political and technical arguments against this. The technical side is that adding all users above a certain edit count to an implicit group would require at least one extra query on page view; this could turn into an unreasonable performance demand. There's a workable solution to this, however. On the political side of things; This is a wiki where "editcountitis" is discouraged and in some cases, condemned. An edit count is not a valuable indicator of a user's trustworthiness where Adminship/sysop status is concerned, nor is it a good indicator of the value, quality and integrity of their contributions.
Thank You Sincerely,

- Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here:
I accept --Deon555|talk 03:54, 16 July 2006 (UTC)I reluctantly withdraw my nomination. Thanks everyone. --Deon555|talk 06:26, 16 July 2006 (UTC) - Support
- Oppose
- Oppose. I agree with your philosophy that an edit count is not a valuable indicator of trustworthiness, etc, but you simply have not shown enough enough experience in policy/process. You have less than 50 WP namespace edits, and this means that I can't be sure that you understand wikipedia's policies. Try participating a bit more in AfD and other forms of deletion as well as other process areas so that you demonstrate the level of knowledge of process that an admin requires. You are currently on the right track. DarthVader 03:56, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose too new, needs to work more on articles, please withdraw and try again in 3 months. Jaranda wat's sup 03:59, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose sorry but with fewer than 250 edits there just isn't enough evidence available for anyone to make a sound judgement about whether you are trustworthy with the admin tools. Also you briefly had another RfA in late May [1] which I would have expected to see mentioned here. Good luck next time, Gwernol 04:00, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Sorry but Strong Oppose. 238 edits doesn't reflect enough experience. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 04:02, 16 July 2006 (UTC) Changed to strong oppose after reading Ambuj's link. Sarah Ewart (Talk) 04:38, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Oppose per Gwernol. Not mentioning your previous RfA and not answering the questions (at least at the time of the first posting) are deal breakers. I'm sorry, but come back another time (and mention this time...please). Alphachimp talk 04:25, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- Comment: Hi, I didn't mention the last one, because my name only (not even the full template) was on the page for like less than a minute, and i thought otherwise. About the question answering: i believe i answered them at time of post.

- Oppose per above. According to WP:ADMIN, users may act like administrators, but they cannot falsely claim to be one. This also displays lack of experience and professional behavior, which, when compounded with the above reasons, forces me to oppose. — Deckiller 04:46, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

- Questions for the candidate
Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia in this capacity. Please take the time to answer a few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:
- 1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? Please check out Category:Wikipedia backlog, and read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.
- A: If elected (here's praying ;) ), I would assist further in Vandalism handling, including blocking etc, I would constantly monitor and help out where possible at AIV, I would help with Clean-up tasks like moving and deleting pages, and I would help new users out :).
- 2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
- A: I haven't made any spectacular edits that I am fabulously proud of. My first edit was a {{TotallyDisputed}} on Bassai-Dai. I mainly do RC and NP Patrol, Cleanup, help with {{helpme}}'s etc.
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- A: I don't believe I have ever had any real conflict, and especially not an edit war. I have inadvertantly reverted what I thought was vandalism, but now realise was not, and the user sent me a message, and i reverted my revert (taking care not to Violate 3RR), and we were all happy ;)

[[After Edit Conflict]] Question from Deckiller:
- What are your feelings on tedious work?
-
- If you are refering to me doing it, I am more than happy to do little tedious things, the only really (IMHO) tedious thing I thought twice about was fixing DAB pages, I thought I could do it, but obviously re-considered.

As stated, I wouldn't mind doing tedious things if i was elected, (almost) anything to help Wikipedia :) Thanks for the question --Deon555|talk 03:55, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
