[edit] Dendodge
Final (0/7/1); Ended 00:40-, 4 March 2008 (UTC) Withdrawn by candidate, non 'crat closure. Dlohcierekim 00:39, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Dendodge (talk · contribs) - I feel I could improve Wikipedia if I were to be granted the mop. I failed my first RfA because it was premature and, at the time, I didn't know what adminship involved. Now I have over 2,000 edits and experience in CSD, AfD, user warning, RPP etc. I know Wikipedia policy almost off by heart and am willing to accept responsibility for my mistakes (should any be made - I'm only human), therefore I will add myself to the list of administrators open to recall. [edit] Questions for the candidate
Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. It is recommended that you answer these optional questions to provide guidance for participants:
- 1. What admin work do you intend to take part in?
- A: Just about everything. I'll stay away from things I don't understand so as not to make mistakes that could damage the encyclopedia but I think I'd prefer anti-vandalism and deletions to anything else.
- 2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
- A: It would have to be Stephano (Shakespeare), which I created and edited almost single-handedly (credit to Wrad and DJ Clayworth, the other 2 major contributors). I also like to think I do my bit for the community, welcoming users and warning about vandalism.
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
- A: I haven't, I'm pleased to say, but I am sure I would stay calm and composed throughout should it happen. Violence doesn't solve anything. My exact actions would depend on the situation.
- 4. Can you explain your rationale at this AfD? EJF (talk) 22:44, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
-
- A.That, on hindsight, may have been better considered. It didn't appear notable at the time but I have since decided against that vote. However, the discussion is closed so I cannot withdraw the vote. This is one of the mistakes I speak of. I have learnt to consider articles more carefully from it.
- 5. (as always, optional) Can you please explain your actions here? Jouster (whisper) 23:20, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- A.Oh, I only just noticed that! I thought the image existed and someone forgot to unhide it. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. That was one of the very few times I didn't review my edit and I will learn from it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dendodge (talk • contribs) 23:25, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- Comment Y Understandable, and thank you for your commitment to preview more often in the future. You may wish to remove the link entirely, rather than merely hiding it as I did, but I will leave it to you to determine the appropriate course of action, not knowing the subject of the article myself. Jouster (whisper) 23:36, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Discussion
- I think I'm going to close this RfA, I've got no chance of passing. I'm not sure how to do it so could someone who does close it for me please. Thanks in advance. George D. Watson (Dendodge).TalkHelp 00:25, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Support
[edit] Oppose
- Oppose - Regretfully - Well intentioned user, but very low mainspace count, in terms of individual articles that is. Weak Wiki-space contributions. I feel you lack the requisite experience that an prospective admin should have. I recommend coming back in a few months and another 3000 or so edits. Try admin coaching or WP:ER. Wisdom89 (T / C) 22:39, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- oppose. Far too little experience with contributing to encyclopedic content for me to have confidence in him. Argyriou (talk) 22:49, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- It looks like 500 or more of your edits are simply welcoming new users with a script. While this is nice, its not really admin-related at all. Fewer than 200 Wikipedia-space contributions, which is where most admin work is, is not near enough experience. Mr.Z-man 23:13, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose – In reviewing your Discussion page Dendodge, I have major concerns with honesty here, sorry. Shoessss | Chat 23:37, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
-
- In what way? I have never knowingly lied on Wikipedia, could you possibly explain the circumstances so I can offer my side of the the point? George D. Watson (Dendodge).TalkHelp 23:50, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

- Comment –Here [1], here [2] and here [3]. My major concern is the first reference with regards to Content contributions, the gentleman makes a very valid point. Good Luck. Shoessss | Chat 00:09, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

- The discussion is fragmented. If you read the gentleman's talk page, I immediately deleted them and apologised. I was originally listing every mainspace edit I made on that list and made that point clear. As for the avian dinosaurs, I was aware of the link. In fact, I think I raised it on a talk page when I first started my account (probably Talk:Dinosaurs). I did receive some comments about blanking talk pages. Both times, Twinkle had done it. I have re-imported the script since then and the complaints stopped. I apologised in both cases of page blanking. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dendodge (talk • contribs) 00:13, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

- Agree – mistakes happen, and I apologize for making note of them, God knows we all make them. However, with the additional responsibilities that an administrator holds, sorry to say, I hold you to a higher standard! More experience will give you the knowledge not to make such obvious mistakes of judgment in the future. Try again in a few months and let’s see the results of your efforts :-). - Oppose. Sorry. I'm a bit concerned about the amount of edits to the mainspace and project space (371 total, 18% of total contribs) as opposed to userspace and user talk (1564, 77% of total), as well as the fact that the overwhelming majority of edits to the latter are with Friendly. Another concern is with the way you handled the announcement of a major Help Desk bug fix that was posted on the Help Desk - most of Wikipedia's rules (policies excepted) should be treated with common sense and the occasional exception (to quote the guideline template), not enforced to the letter as you did there. Finally, you have only been active for two months; in my eyes that is not long enough to learn the policies to the level that an admin should know them. Xenon54 00:06, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- He makes a good point, and is admirably sticking his neck out in doing so. If it belongs anywhere (not sure how WP:CANVAS applies, if at all, to requests for votes on Bugzilla, nor do I care to research the issue at the moment), it belongs on the Talk page, and, indeed, that's where it ended up. Jouster (whisper) 00:21, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose The "this user successfully campaigned for the deletion of ___" buttons on your user page strike me the wrong way...I hope deletion never becomes a core value. It has it's place but to celebrate it.... RxS (talk) 00:12, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- If you are opposed to them, I will delete them - just ask. I am not celebrating deletions, simply listing them. George D. Watson (Dendodge).TalkHelp 00:15, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- In fact, I've deleted them anyway. They were starting to take up too much room and you had a valid point. George D. Watson (Dendodge).TalkHelp 00:22, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- This user feels power hungry to me, placing logos at the top of his page for every successful AfD nomination almost like a point system. Tiptoety talk 00:32, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- As I said above, they have gone now, I do not want to seem power hungry and apologise if I come across as being so. George D. Watson (Dendodge).TalkHelp 00:35, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Neutral
- There exists a gulf between assuming good faith and contributing constructively to the Project. More edits like this and fewer like these and I will happily change to support. Jouster (whisper) 23:32, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
