[edit] ALoan
(23/0/1) ends 15:17, 11 Oct 2004
ALoan has been active in the community for quite awhile now. During that time, he has shown himself to be friendly and hard-working user, taking a particular interest in COTWs. I feel he should be an admin. [[User:Neutrality|Neutrality (talk)]] 15:17, Oct 4, 2004 (UTC)

- Not a name I know, but a trawl through his work and his involvements leads me to believe he would make a very useful admin.Sjc 08:55, 8 Oct 2004 (UTC)

- Netoholic @ 16:26, 2004 Oct 4 (UTC) -- Looks like a great editor. Would prefer a few more edits, and some activity outside the article namespace, so we could gauge their readiness.

Questions for the candidate
A few generic questions to provide guidance for voters:
- 1. What sysop chores, if any, would you anticipate helping with? (Please read the page about administrators and the administrators' reading list.)
- A - I'm already involved in the administration of WP:COTW, and actively participate in WP:FAC, WP:FARC, WP:PR, etc. Now I have noticed it, I'm likely to get involved in WP:UKCOTW. Otherwise, I am a bit of a dilettante - I dip in and out of topics, as the mood takes me. Recently, I've been trying to restrict my wiki-time, to get a better balance with real life. I'd also like to get back a bit to adding content, rather than just administering. I don't anticipate making extensive use of administrator powers (such as they are) but, for example, rollback reversion of vandalism will be useful.
- 2. Of your articles or contributions to Wikipedia, are there any about which you are particularly pleased, and why?
- A - Of my 1,800 or so contributions since April 2004, I'm particularly pleased to have been involved in getting siege, speed of light, exploding whale and cricket up to Featured Article standard. I've also added, augmented and maintained a number of cricket-related articles and categories, several articles on physics- and astronomy-related topics, and topics to do with UK taxation (more work needed here!).
- 3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or do you feel other users have caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and will deal with it in the future?
- A - Who hasn't been involved in conflicts! In my experience, there is nothing better than taking a deep breath, keeping calm and trying to find out exactly what the other person really means and why, to try to reconcile positions. I hope I have been courteous in dealing woth other wikipedians. For example, I tried to pour some oil on the turbulent waters in Acronym and Analogue disc record (before they were moved). As for stress, often the best remedy is to leave wikipedia alone for a while - someone else may well contribute something that will make the problem go away.
