[edit] Barry Manilow Template Request

A template for Barry Manilow is needed similar to the one for Paul McCartney that shows studio albums, soundtracks, compilations or greatest hits albums, other related albums, singles. As it is now, the Discography section is long and takes up a lot of space. A template like this would look more organized and make it easier for the reader. Thanks for your consideration and help. 71.169.77.56 16:35, 22 December 2006 (UTC) 67.98.154.56 (talkcontribs) 67.98.154.56 19:24, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unrenderable Characters (Arabic transliteration)

A number of characters based on the ArabDIN 31635 standard are used on pages that discuss Arabic-related issues. Unfortunately, they do not all display correctly on common browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0. I have tried replacing individual characters with equivalents that do display, but I have gotten mixed results, and I don't know why. See Arabic alphabet and Qur'an. There seems to be a set of templates, such as {{ArabDIN|ʼ}}, that are causing the problem. I can't fix the problem myself, but I'd like to be able to flag the pages that are affected so that they can be fixed by someone who DOES know how. Suggested text: "This article or section contains characters in the ArabDIN 31635 encoding scheme which do not render properly on common web browsers such as Internet Explorer. Please convert these characters so that they will display properly. Remove this tag when complete." --Cbdorsett 11:34, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

The issue isn't the browser, though; I use IE, and it renders fine. -Amarkov blahedits 02:52, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
I was researching a problem with an unusual unicode character displaying, and came across information indicating that it's a matter of whether the browser has a font that can handle it. I didn't really solve the problem, but I do believe that firefox and IE6 and IE7 may behave differently with regards to this. John Broughton | Talk 03:04, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks, but can you recommend a font? I'll figure out how to install it myself. But it still leaves the question open. People who do not have the font need to know where to get it and how to install it. This sounds like the right kind of thing for a tag. By the way, I ran across the same problem with some Cyrillic transliterations. Cbdorsett 12:40, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AMD chipset template request

As AMD is renaming their chipsets into new naming scheme, I think an AMD chipset template is needed, and not adding the new chipsets into the ATI template... --202.71.240.18 07:46, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

We have an existing article List of Intel chipsets. How about you make an article at List of AMD chipsets instead?

[edit] Proposed Medical Disclaimer Template

I think that articles on medical conditions and treatments should bear a disclaimer. Particularly if it is deemed that people might use the information provided in lieu of seeking proper medical care. I made a template in my user space that I think addresses this concern: Jerry lavoie 01:48, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

{{User:JerryLavoie/Templates/med}}

Which looks like:

Medical Disclaimer

This is a bad idea. See WP:NDT, but in essence, the problem is that we already have a Wikipedia:Medical disclaimer, and tagging specific articles will cause problems with articles that are not tagged. -Amarkov blahedits 01:37, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
I think the rationale in WP:NDT for medical disclaimers is a bit weaker, but still applies. If out of "common sense" or whatever you think we should start adding medical disclaimers, gather some support at Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals) and see if you can convince people. —Dgiest c 07:54, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

This discussion has been moved to village pump. Please add any comments there. Jerry lavoie 14:23, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Amazing Race contestant

A template about a contestant of the Amazing Race —Preceding unsigned comment added by Benjaminso (talkcontribs)

  • More information is needed. What should this template have that is not covered by the standard {{infobox person}}? —Dgiest c 17:44, 2 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Display spelling based on browser

Can somebody make a template that is used to display different spellings according to the browser/system locale. Usage examples could be for instance (UK, US, default). (This could resolve disputes such as this)

  • {{US=Color|Colour}}
  • {{UK=Programme|Program}}
  • {{UK=Programme|US=Program|Program}}

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
<!--
        lang=navigator.userLanguage;
        if (lang=="en-us")
                x0="Color";
        else
                x0="Colour";
  // end hiding --->
  document.write(x0);
</SCRIPT>

Shyamal 06:51, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

  1. I'm not sure this is a good idea, and
  2. Does MediaWiki even allow you to put JavaScript inside a template?
Dgiest c 07:56, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
No, it doesn't. The JavaScript would have to be placed in MediaWiki:Common.js and triggered by something in the template. This triggering is usually done with a CSS class. I don't see this being added to MediaWiki:Common.js. Mike Dillon 08:17, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Note- although this last comment may be open ended- a lack of response for over month demanded that it be archivedDaniel()Folsom |\T/|\C/|\U/ 02:36, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Chicago Electric Railroad Templates

Could somebody create a template for the electrified Chicago railroads? It would have a section on defunct railroads, including the Chicago North Shore and Milwaukee, Chicago Aurora and Elgin, and Chicago Surface Lines, as well as a "Currently Operating" section which would contain the Chicago Transit Authority, South Shore Line, and Metra Electric. I know that there are more than that, but there could be an edit button. I think it would be a good template to have, since Electric Railroads have been an important part of Chicago's history. Or, if the electric railways aren't enough, someone could also make a template for Chicago railroads, since Chicago is basically a railroad city. --MasterA113 13:40, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Latin alphabet template needs fixing

Please change OSI to ISO - maybe OSI is correct in some other language, but in English, it's called the ISO. Cbdorsett 05:07, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Done. —Dgiest c 06:08, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
That was fast! Thanks. Cbdorsett 06:09, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Excessive category clean-up template

I would like to propose an excessive category template that can be applied to articles that appear at the top of Special:Mostcategories. This could be used to indicate that some type of category clean-up is needed (whether it involves removing categories from the individual article pages or consolidating or deleting impractical categories). I would be willing to write a draft of such a template. Dr. Submillimeter 12:09, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

The problem with that is, having lots of categories is not necessarily bad. For instance, George H.W. Bush, at the top of the list, belongs in all the categories, and is in no redundant ones. A template implying that it is necessary to remove categories doesn't work. -Amark moo! 15:41, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Please read my request again. The template would also encourage deleting or merging impractical categories. For example, George H. W. Bush contains many categories that are rather superfluous. I have nominated three categories from George H. W. Bush for deletion, and all of the votes are currently in favor of deletion. This demonstrates that George H. W. Bush contained some categories that were impractical. Hank Aaron was another great example. Hank Aaron's article contained over fifty categories before a vote on 2006 November 19 led to merging multiple categories related to his play in the All-Star games. The template would serve a purpose beyond asking the editors to remove redundant categories; it would also ask the user to help clean up the category system.
I also disagree on whether having too many categories is bad. At the moment, the categories in George H. W. Bush appear as 12 lines of unorganized blue text in my web browser. This blue mass of links is difficult to read; it would be unacceptable in most other electronic documents. Some of the superfluous categories need to be removed just to make the section more readable. Dr. Submillimeter 16:15, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
You'll still need a consensus that such a cleanup template really is appropriate. WT:CAT seems like a good place to go. -Amark moo! 16:19, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
I will go there and start a discussion. Dr. Submillimeter 09:36, 28 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Embassy Template

I am requesting a template for all articles about International Embassies with information like the ambassador, the location, the representative country, a place for the respective flag, etc... Thank you so much. Rory for suomi 15:35, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

For what country? Also, where is a list or article that contains the data you want? Mike Dillon 15:42, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
I'm pretty sure he wants an infobox. I'll try to do it. -Amark moo! 15:43, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Well specifically its for Finland, but just an infobox would be useful so it could be used for other embassies and whatnot. Thanks. Rory for suomi 15:46, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Amarkov was right that I misinterpreted your request. I thought you were asking for a navigation box for a specific country's embassies, not an infobox. Mike Dillon 15:53, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
