[edit] Wikiproject Debate

I am looking for a banner template for Wikiproject debate. Also, if it helps, this image could be used: Image:Gavel.jpg

Thanks,

Done, but the image - Image:Gavel.jpg should be edited so it has a transparent background. Currently your banner look like this. Af648 05:06, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A couple of userboxes

I would like a couple of user boxes made. I would make them, but I'm not that sure how to. One of them would be about WWE wrestler Kane saying "This user is a Kaneanite" and the other one would be about the former WWE wrestler Andrew Martin saying "This user was a Testicle" If someone makes them, could they put them on my talk page? Thanks. -Gdfanatic21594 07:50, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

I have given a couple of simple suggestions, using parameters for Template:userbox, and images from articles linked in each of the proposed texts. Red seems a nice garish color for WWE userboxes. Duae Quartunciae (talk · cont) 13:04, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Requesting a template for Livy's Histories of Rome

I would like a template such as that for Smith's Dictionary of Greek and Roman Antiquities (as shown here on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:GRA) for Livy's Histories of Rome, a work which is in the public domain. Thanks wikibiohistory 19:37, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

I create a template Template:LHR. Regarding Template:GRA, I found a similar template Template:SmithDGRA which is not highly used. eDenE 16:16, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Buffalo, NY

Hi I am Dwayne Marsh in real name and I would like a template of the city of Buffalo, NY just like they did with San Antonio, TX. I would like it organized onto these categories.

Attractions

Entertainment

Companies

Research & Education and

Other.

Thanks,

I created a skeleton of the template at {{Buffalo(NY)}}, you can fill it up, any problems just leave a message on my talk page Af648 07:57, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WP:SPACE

I would like a userbox that says something along the lines of "The user is a member of WikiProject Space".--Hornetman16 (talk) 03:28, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

I created Template:User_WPSPACE using Template:Userbox. This template also places users in Category:WikiProject Space participants, which hasn't been created. I hope you like it and if don't, feel free to change or ask me to change. :) eDenE 14:33, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Update "start date" to output HH:MM:SS etc

Please will someone assist my work on adding hCalendar microformats to articles about dated events, by modifying {{start date}} (which I just created, and which is not yet widely used). The current output is restircted to YYYY-MM-DD and a human-readable equvalent; it also needs to output:

  • YYYY
  • YYYY:MM
  • YYYY:MM:DDTHH
  • YYYY:MM:DDTHH:MM
  • YYYY:MM:DDTHH:MM:SS

in ISO 8601 format. An example use would be the "launch" field in the infobox on Apollo 11. Thank you. Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 20:10, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Did you mean:

  • YYYY
  • YYYY-MM
  • YYYY-MM-DDTHH
  • YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM
  • YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS ? eDenE 20:26, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Doh! yes. Tired... Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 20:30, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm not quite sure about df=yes. I understand your intention, but it will confuse a lot of people. (It is currently not working anyways.) eDenE 22:15, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Also according to hCalendar, the format is
<abbr class="dtstart" title="2007-07-31T10:16:00-5:00">now</abbr>
not
now (2007-07-31T10:16:00-5:00)
Which one is correct? eDenE 02:09, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
abbr is not required; only a wrapping class="dtstart". "df" does work, but you need to be logged out (or at least not have a date preference set). I wouldn't be bothered about it, but some editors have heatedly insisted on it in {{birth date}} et al, on which this one is based. Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 07:56, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Which human readable form and which machine readable form do you want ? Also the big problem with times is always timezones. I think it would be best to add a "UTC" paramater that would confirm that the user has actively chosen to enter a UTC time and otherwise leave it empty. The other possibility is to have a timezone parameter with the allowed values of (UTC,Z,+hours,-hours) and then require any time to be entered in UTC. --TheDJ (talkcontribs) 15:11, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Whatever you think best! Anyone else have a view? Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 17:24, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

I updated {{Start date}}. It now supports time and all parameters except year are optional. There is one problem; it doesn't format time based on user's preference. Also, there is a restriction to display time; both hour and minute are required. (hCalendar will still keep hour information) eDenE 18:41, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

Thank you. I'll test the hours and minutes later. but I note that {{Start date|1968|01}} is only outputting a year in the ISO format, as used on We're Only in It for the Money. Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 21:32, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

(outdent) It appears that your output (wrapped for clarity) is:

{{Start date|1993|2}}:

<span class="dtstart" title="1993-02">
<a href="/wiki/February" title="February">February</a>,
<a href="/wiki/1993" title="1993">1993</a></span>

compare it with the output from the existing YYYY-MM-DD use:

{{End date|1993|2|24}}:

<a href="/wiki/February_24" title="February 24">February 24</a>,
<a href="/wiki/1993" title="1993">1993</a>
<span style="display:none">
  (<span class="dtend">1993-02-24</span>)
</span>

microformats don't detect "title" on anything but abbr (and abbr isn't supported in MediaWiki). I've reverted, for now. Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 21:43, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

I've updated again (in fact reverted to my first edit, which was using your way.) eDenE 21:57, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. That seems OK for dates, but {{End date|1993|2|24|08|30}} returns "24 February 1993 (1993-02-24)" with no time. Is that how you intended time to be entered? Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 22:16, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
I wanted to make sure {{Start date}} is working fine first, so didn't updated {{End date}}. Now {{End date}} is updated as well. :) eDenE 22:28, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
That all seems to be working, now. I've added more examples to the /doc page. We now need to decide what to do about time-zones; and the "exclusive dtend" for whole-day dates (that's a real minefield!). I'll see what I can come up with. Thanks for all your help; it's really appreciated. Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 22:43, 1 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Time zone

I've used an instance in Clapham Junction rail crash with the time set for 08:00 GMT. How should the time zone be entered, to output ...T08:00+00:00 (or, for that matter, ...T08:00+05:00)? Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 23:08, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

You can now specify timezone using the seventh parameter. {{Start date|YYYY|MM|DD|HH|MM|SS|TimeZone}}. I can make this defaults to Z, but I don't think all dates are in Z. eDenE 14:05, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Thank you, but the HTML output on the Clapham article is now 1988-12-12(UTC)T08:10Z, which is invalid. Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 14:14, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
I was keep changing it :X and made many mistakes. Everything should be ok now. eDenE 14:40, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks; "Clapham" seems to be OK, now. I'll set about documenting the template on the relevant /doc page. Could you do {{end date}}, as well, please? Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 14:45, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Y Done one minute before your last comment :D eDenE 15:03, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

{outdent} Thank you. again.

{{Start date|1993|2|24|08|||+01:00}} returns "February 24, 1993 (+01:00) (1993-02-24T08+01:00)"
{{Start date|1993|2|24|08|||-07:00}} returns "February 24, 1993 (-07:00) (1993-02-24T08-07:00)"
Is there a problem with the template, or my usage? Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 15:05, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Ummm. I don't know the correct format of the timezone. Should +/- be preceded by UTC? eDenE 15:18, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
See ISO8601 (but note that the time is not shown, in the above examples!). Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 15:34, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
The time is displayed when both hour and minute are given, because showing "12, August 13, 2007" is weird in my opinion. I can probably tweak to display "Hour 12, August 13, 2007" if only hour is given.
Unfortunately, Wiki doesn't format the timezone according to the user's preferences. I decided to put it in (), since the template itself uses "August 13, 2007" format by default. The hCalendar microformat will always be in ISO8601 format, however. eDenE 16:16, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Seoul Subway template

This is really a request for assistance, so apologies if I'm in the wrong place. I've created this nav template in my userspace, but obviously the whole thing is ridiculously huge when visible. What I'd like is for each individual section to be hidden by default, but I can't figure out how to do this. Thanks in advance! PC78 14:36, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

Fixed. The missing code was style="display:none;" in each of the NavContent divs. - 52 Pickup 06:53, 13 August 2007 (UTC)
Cheers! PC78 14:41, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Template to export points of interest as KML; see them on Google Maps

Pages marked with {{coord}} can be exported as KML (for use in Google Earth, for example) via Brian Suda's site, in this format:

http://suda.co.uk/projects/microformats/geo/get-geo.php?type=kml&uri=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_volcanoes_in_the_United_States_of_America

The same URL can be pasted into Google Maps as a search, and will show the locations, as push-pins on a map

I'd like a template which generates both of those links for the page on which it is used. Can someone assist, noting the "escaping" in the latter, please? Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 09:55, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

The following code prints out links to suda.co.kr and Google Maps. Note that escaping the entire address is not necessary; only & sign needs to be escaped. eDenE 14:14, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
[http://suda.co.uk/projects/microformats/geo/get-geo.php?type=kml&uri={{SERVER}}/wiki/{{FULLPAGENAMEE}} KML]
[http://maps.google.com/maps?q=http://suda.co.uk/projects/microformats/geo/get-geo.php?type=kml%26uri={{SERVER}}/wiki/{{FULLPAGENAMEE}} Google Maps]
Thank you. I've made a template at {{kml}} - unfortunately, when used on List of volcanoes in the United States of America (reverted edit) the second link doesn't work. It does, though, work on Works well, as can Netherton Tunnel Branch Canal. Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 15:19, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
It's already been nominated for deletion! Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 15:35, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
Decision was Keep :-) Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 11:21, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
(the above bug report deleted) It works fine, as seen on as can Netherton Tunnel Branch Canal (unless it's been reverted from there, again!) - the problems on the volcano page was caused by network lag. Thank you!

[edit] Bug?

It appears that brackets may need to be escaped. Compare the results from the link on Splashdown (spacecraft landing) and on my sandbox (the latter has the same content). Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 21:59, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

I didn't know about that. I fixed the problem using a m:Help:Parser function. :) eDenE 03:31, 6 August 2007 (UTC)
It's still broken again :-( Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 11:07, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
It seems like Google Maps doesn't accept (), so I have to urlencode twice. Now it works! eDenE 14:45, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
Belatedly, thank you. Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 11:39, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Subpage warning

I searched around, and I haven't seen a generic or specific header, such as the essay warning, that tells visitors that "this is so and so's sandbox." Aesthetically, either something similar to the {{workpage}} template or the essay warning would be good. Optional parameters should include a link back to the particular user, a link to their talk, and the option to specify what type of subpage it is (gallery, sandbox etc.) Thanks very much, VanTucky (talk) 04:37, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

I've had a custom version of something like this plastered on my sandbox for awhile now, it looks like this:
If I used that as a prototype, something along the lines of
This is a user sandbox belonging to Requested templates/Created/2007. Constructive changes are generally welcome.
might work, eh? It takes two parameters, type and talk. Type determines what it is called, and if it matches a stock phrase (I used "sandbox" and "gallery" in this example, got any more?), an extra explanatory sentence is added. Talk adds a link to the user's talk page if it is specified. How does that look, I can certainly tweak it as desired. I did this quickly, and it incorporates both a wiki-style table and ParserFunctions, so it might break, haven't tested it yet. I'm mainly worried about wordsmithing here. Hope that helps, Nihiltres(t.l) 02:49, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
That's perfect. VanTucky (talk) 16:29, 10 August 2007 (UTC)
Now available for use at Template:User subpage notice. :) Nihiltres(t.l) 01:07, 11 August 2007 (UTC)
I added the boilerplate from {{Userpage}}, but the layout needs tweaking, please. Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 11:18, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Syntax hlep, please

I would like to modify {{Infobox City PT}} and {{Infobox City Estonia}} such that the third line in:

|- bgcolor="#FFFFFF"
| '''[[Geographic coordinate system|Coordinates]]'''
| [{{Coor URL}}{{{params}}} {{{coor}}}]

becomes something like:

If "paramters" then use "[{{Coor URL}}{{{params}}} {{{coor}}}]", else if "coordinates" use {{{coordinates}}} else omit this TR.

so that a new "coordinates" parameter, taking {{coord}} as its input, can be set. How should I do that, please? (And should I have asked elsewhere?)Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 19:25, 14 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure what you mean by "If parameters" and "if coordinates". If I simply translate, the code would be
{{#if: parameters|[{{Coor URL}}{{{params}}} {{{coor}}}]|{{#if: coordinates|{{{coordinates}}}}}}}
Nonetheless, I think it is better to use {{Infobox City}} if possible. eDenE 20:16, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
That seems to do it the first part, but not the "else omit the table row". I agree with your latter point; but one step at a time... Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 20:42, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Oh... I see what your problem is. To put the pipe (|) inside of {{#if: }}, use {{!}}. If you are comfortable with HTML, you can use <tr> and <td> instead of |- and |. So the final result would be:
{{#if: parameters coordinates | {{!}}- bgcolor="#FFFFFF"
{{!}} '''[[Geographic coordinate system|Coordinates]]'''
{{!}} {{#if: parameters|[{{Coor URL}}{{{params}}} {{{coor}}}]|{{#if: coordinates|{{{coordinates}}} }} }} }} }}
Thank you. I've tried that in the example at {{Infobox City PT}}, but it doesn't seem to be working. Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 22:14, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
As I first commented, I wasn't not sure what you meant by "If parameters" and "if coordinates." I now guess you meant "if {{{params}}}" is given, and "if {{{coordinates}}}" is given. I fixed {{Infobox City PT}}, so take a look and if you have more questions, leave them on my talk page. eDenE 22:59, 14 August 2007 (UTC)
Apologies for my lack of clarity; and thanks for your help. Andy Mabbett | Talk to Andy Mabbett 07:44, 15 August 2007 (UTC)
