Talk:Republican motherhood
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I reinserted the "origin of the term" and "equality or inequality?" sections, which are essential to a scholarly understanding of the concept. The short version of the article was a little ambiguous-- "republican motherhood" was NOT an 18c term, but rather a 20c historian's name for a prominent but somehat amorphous 18c concept. "Republican motherhood" is one of the central interpretive concepts in early American women's history, and I think it deserves four paragraphs of explanation. Many thanks to whomever compiled the bibliography. drfryer, 30 June 2006
