Talk:Republic of Choson

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I've now blanked and redirected this page to Joseon, as no further evidence has come forward and the original creator of this page has not edited since. --G Rutter 09:23, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC)

  • Keep, to hold off on decision until legitimacy can be established. It seems like a potential real-world political concept, but should be pared down from its appearance as an article for a real state. - KeithTyler 00:11, Sep 2, 2004 (UTC) (edited 17:03, Sep 2, 2004 (UTC))
  • Some serious medical attention would be needed. It is one of the proposed futures of a fallen/defeated North Korea, seems like, but we need to know who's proposing it, how current the idea is, how contentious within Korea, etc. I'll abstain, because I think a quick, encyclopedic summary would be good, but presenting it with a map, etc., looks POV, as if it were already fact. Geogre 00:51, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep, but trim away a lot of it. It shouldn't look like a regular nation page, and shouldn't have anything except perhaps a flag and a brief paragraph or two. Binadot 01:07, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep, since I trimmed away a lot of it. :) This article does seem a bit weird to me, as I didn't find any relevant "Republic of Choson" websites.
  • Keep. "Choson" is actually the local name for "Korea" (see [1]). If the named defector did in fact propose a transitional republic of this nature, 3rd party sources somewhere (probably Korean-language) should be able to confirm it. The concept is certainly notable. --Gene_poole 06:18, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • weak keep in current state. I saw this one yesterday, but couldn't find any verification either of the proposal or whether Kim Ho-Seung is notable (i.e. not just another guy / gal with ideas and Internet access). --Ianb 06:38, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)
    • delete unless this proposal and the proposal are somehow notable (e.g. the subject is a matter of controversy in Korea, etc.) - I can't find anything that makes it more than one person's proposal, and Wikipedia is not a soapbox. --Ianb 17:23, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Comment - I can't find any evidence of notability for the person (named in the article) who proposed this. Can anyone provide a cite? Google is completely at a loss to provide links for this.Average Earthman 10:32, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)
    • Since no-one has yet come forward with any cites that this individual's proposals and flag are significant, delete. Average Earthman 21:49, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete- I've searched Google, The Guardian, Free North Korea (about defectors), Asia News and Asia Times, and I can't find anything to substantiate the claims in the article. I've invited the original author (A471555) to give us some independent evidence of this, and if they do I will change my vote. --GRutter 11:20, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)
    • Blank and redirect to Joseon, delete Flag of Choson, delete the associated images. User A471555 has not contributed since creating these pages. --GRutter 20:26, 5 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete if unconfirmed. -Sean Curtin 17:25, Sep 2, 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete unless confirmed during the discussion period. If deleted, also delete Flag of Choson by the same author and consider whether the images need to be nominated. Rossami 23:04, 2 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete unless some sources are found that substantiate this. Angela. 00:14, Sep 3, 2004 (UTC)

  • Keep, could be a developing story one day. GeneralPatton 00:05, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Keep. "Republic of Choson" is also used by various North Korean organizations as a shorter term for DPRK. But the flag is wrong, simply repeating 8 I Ching symbols instead of using 16 different symbols. Revth 02:23, 4 Sep 2004 (UTC)
    • If true, then it should be blanked and turned into a redirect. KeithTyler
  • If verified the contents should be moved to either Reunification of Korea or Joseon with the current title redirected. AndyL 04:59, 5 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete for now. If it turns out to be a politically and historically important entity, there is always room for it later. Denni 00:47, 2004 Sep 6 (UTC)
  • Delete if not verified. Andris 16:56, Sep 7, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Republic of Choson Flag.png

Image:Republic of Choson Flag.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
