I rewrote most of this page and added a lot of content, as I had promised long ago. I also added recent two references where the general theory can be found. The article could benefit from a concrete example of an application of the equation, perhaps from both biology and economics. Marc Harper 19:16, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Should

be

 \dot{x_i} = (\sum_{j=1}^{n}{x_j f_j(x) Q_{ji}} - \phi(x))x_i,
