Talk:Repentance (song)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I'm pretty sure that's not Steven Wilson singing the opening line. That's more likely Jordan Rudess using the Roland VP Keyboard to modify the original quote. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's my guess. The Slurpee Man 00:26, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- Perhaps. I could swear to hell it's Steven Wilson. Steviedpeele 01:15, 17 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Epic?!
"This song was written by Mike Portnoy and is part of his Alcoholics Anonymous suite, a progressive metal epic about the twelve steps of the Alcoholics Anonymous program."
- Is this a joke or what? --ΛэтєяиuS 16:54, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
- I guess one could consider it to be an epic. Once the suite is finished, I believe one will be able to listen to each part successively. Steviedpeele 14:20, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

- Alcoholics Anonymous suite will be an epic (when it's finished), of course. But "Repentance", just "Repentance" - it isn't an epic for sure. --ΛэтєяиuS 17:14, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

- I guess it depends on how you read the first statement. To me, I understand it to mean the AA suite is the epic, not "Repentance." Steviedpeele 20:35, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- That is correct... a simple familiarity with phrasing in the English language would show that "a progressive metal epic" refers to "his Alcoholics Anonymous suite". Relax a little, dude. InnocuousFox 23:40, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

Who is the Bill W. that the song is dedicated to ?
- Bill Wilson, creator of the AA twelve-step program. Hetcenus (Talk) 21:28, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
- AA members occasionally refer to themselves as "a friend of Bill W." InnocuousFox 23:40, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] "The Promises" vocal overdub
Is anyone else expecting a lady to jump in and say "how's his head? better?". That whole section - the vocal processing and the pacing, etc. all sound like it's straight out of "Silent Lucidity". Another nod, perhaps? InnocuousFox 23:42, 9 June 2007 (UTC)
- "If you persist more efforts, you can achieve... dream control...", but yeah, crossed my mind too. Also, sounds a lot like Opeth's Damnation? // Gargaj 17:56, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
I noticed that the Promises aren't on Wikipedia. Do we want to transcribe them here for reference? (I can... they're all over the web.) There is no copyright violation in doing so. InnocuousFox 11:33, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
- Do it. --ΛэтєяиuS 14:16, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Spoken Parts
The spoken parts section of the article needs to have sources. I believe some names may be incorrect.
For example, the DVD that is included with the Special Edition of Systematic Chaos seems to suggest that the first spoken part is actually Corey Taylor. His name is clearly listed along with several others. As the DVD plays through the part of "Repentance" with the spoken parts, the video is distorted using several different methods, likely to obstruct people from being able to clearly read the names. The first one appears to be Corey Taylor's name, however, not Mike Portnoy as listed in the article. Brent Butler contribstalk 17:21, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Some strange people in there. Seriously, Corey Taylor? Steve Vai? WTF?
