[edit] Biography

Beron was born February 22, 1985 in Calapan City, capital and largest city of the province of Oriental Mindoro in Western Philippines and attended Camilmil Central School and Jose J. Leido Jr. Memorial National High School in Calapan City. The youngest and only son of Mrs. Estelita Calibot Beron to her second husband, Mr. Vicente Beron, his roots can be traced from Batangas island-town of Isla Verde and Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro. Beron has three step-sisters (Eden Idaya-Garcia, Wennie Idaya-Rodegerio, Maria Teresa Idaya) and one step brother (Dexter Idaya) from his mother's first husband, Filemon Idaya. Having been raised in the farmlands of Baco, a nearby municipality outside of Calapan City, where his father has several hectares of land dedicated to major crops such as coffee, coconut and rice, Beron grew up as a smart and talented boy who has been consistent honor student during his elementary and high school days. He was first honor from grades one to five at Camilmil Central School. Since he simultaneously grew up with several Mangyan families as they were his father's tenants, Beron knew how to speak the Mangyan local dialect aside from his native Tagalog. When he was grade one, his mother decided to move to Calapan City proper for him to attain better education. Beron then showed up his talents when he first joined and won a provincial poster making contest hosted by the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry. He then represented the province of Oriental Mindoro in various poster making and slogan competition, and even theater arts. He was also part of a Speech Choir called "A Child in the Dark" representing Calapan City in a national competition when he was in his sixth grade.

[edit] Writing Career

Beron started to realize he has a talent in writing during his high school days at Jose J. Leido Jr. Memorial National High School Lemnahis when he was encouraged to write poems by two of his classmates (Sheela Ciudad and Rosemarie Cepillo) who by then were discreet poets and who writes poems just for the fun of it. Beron wanted to be a part of the high school publication however, since he was on the third highest class under the high school curriculum called the Special Science Class (also called Star Section), and high school writers are being selcted only from the First and Highest class, he was frustrated and started to decline writing. He continued writing poems and songs on the contrary. Beron did not realize his dreams of becoming a school writer not until he entered the Divine Word College of Calapan, the most famous and expensive college institution in the island of Mindoro and one of the most highly-respected institution of higher learning in Philippine's southern tagalog region when he was admitted to the DWCC Gazette, the official college publication of the Divine Word College of Calapan. Beron started as a resporter to the publication manned mostly by intelligent AB, Education and Accountancy students. Beron however, was a complete outcast being the first ever Computer Science student who qualified as a writer in the whole history of Divine Word College. He joined the publication when he was a sophomore and rose from the ranks as he was promoted from reporter to Sports Editor and later as Managing Editor during his senior and last year in college. As a Sports Editor, Beron was a famous campus critic. In one of his columns entitled "Why only now?", Beron tackled the unfair sports rules and policies of his school and bravely criticized faculties and authorities connected to a certain policy that caused a department1 to lose in one of the sports events and made another one to win. In addition, Renante Beron has written over 80 poems, 11 Short Stories and 23 essays in English and Filipino. Some of Beron's poems are "Calaboose (2005)", "Who Am I to Love You(2002)" and "Cornea(2005)". One of the pioneers of modern Philippines gay and homosexual literature, his short story collection includes "Rennaisance of Heart (2003)" and "Mockery of the Harmonica(2006)". His essays also includes "Ostensible (2004)" and "Before oblivion (2002)", all mentioned works published in the DWCC Gazette and the Katha Literary magazine from year 2002 to year 2006. He is currently working on a new novel that he plans to submit to one of the Philippine best-selling publishers next year.
