[edit] Career
Anoa'i trained as a wrestler under his uncle, Afa Anoa'i, debuting in 2002 as Reno the Black Pearl. He went on to wrestle for the Californian Empire Wrestling Federation and the Pennsylvanian World Xtreme Wrestling promotion. He eventually shortened his ring name to Black Pearl.
In 2005, Anoa'i journeyed to Italy and began wrestling for his cousin Kishi's Nu-Wrestling Evolution promotion. In NWE, Anoa'i adopted the gimmick of an aristocrat, claiming to be "The Count of California". On November 25, 2005 in Naples, he won a tournament to become the first NWE Heavyweight Champion.
