[edit] Overview

Framed for the murder of his wife by Dixon, Reno Raines is sent to prison but promptly escapes. Dixon sends professional bounty hunter Native American Bobby Sixkiller (Branscombe Richmond) after him, but Reno instead saves Bobby's life and gains his trust. Adopting the name Vince Black, Reno works as a bounty hunter for Sixkiller Enterprises, while searching for the one witness who can clear his name and bring down Dixon — a witness called Hound Adams (Geoffrey Blake) who, fearing for his own life, will only come forward if Reno kills Dixon, something which he is unwilling to do.

Introduction:

He was a cop, and good at his job. But he committed the ultimate sin, and testified against other cops gone bad. Cops that tried to kill him, but got the woman he loved instead. Framed for murder, now he prowls the badlands. An outlaw hunting outlaws, a bounty hunter, a Renegade.

The Renegade theme was composed by Mike Post. At the peak of its syndication run Renegade was broadcast in nearly 100 countries and a dozen languages, achieving a noteworthy following as one of the most viewed world programs, rivaled in numbers only by the syndication powerhouse Baywatch.

[edit] Cast

At the time of filming the early seasons, Kinmont was married to Lamas.

Cannell played Dixon as a very sophisticated man who dressed well and was a cool and calculating villain, who could pass as a good guy if he wasn't such a corrupt and Machiavellian man. Cannell has claimed that, after watching an episode of Renegade featuring Dixon, his children would not talk to him for the rest of the day.
