René Herse

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

René Herse (b. 1913, Levallois, France; d. 1976) was a highly regarded builder of ultra high end touring and racing bicycles whose works are prized to this day. Not just a framebuilder, Herse was a "constructeur"--he built the whole bike, including lots of hand fabricated custom components. Herse was an innovator and an early adopter of silver soldered lugs, sealed bottom brackets and detailed craftsmanship. His daughter, Lyli Herse, won several national female cycling championships in France.

His hand-built bicycles were described as "the pinnacle of French cycling" from the 1940s until his death.[citation needed]
