René Blum (Paris, 13 March 1878 - Auschwitz, 1943), choreographer, was the founder of the Ballet de l'Opéra at Monte Carlo.

Of Jewish heritage, he was the brother of the Socialist Prime Minister of France, Léon Blum.

In 1931, Blum was hired to form the Ballet of the Opera of Monte-Carlo by Prince Louis II of Monaco.

[edit] Deportation and death

In 1943, the Italian army invaded and occupied Monaco, setting up a Fascist administration. Following the September 8 armistice between Italy and the Allies, the Wehrmacht occupied Monaco and began the deportation of the Jewish population. Among them was Blum, who was held in the Drancy deportation camp, then shipped to the Auschwitz concentration camp, where he was killed by the Nazis.
