Renán Almendárez Coello

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Renán Almendárez Coello (born November 18, 1953) is a Honduran radio show host of the show El Cucuy de la Mañana ("The Boogeyman of the Morning") on KLAX-FM in Los Angeles, California. The show, which is widely syndicated, airs weekdays from 4-11 and on Saturdays from 5-10 and has an estimated audience of about three million daily listeners. For the past 6 years, Renan, "El Cucuy", has remained the most-listened-to voice on L.A. radio (Arbitron Fall 2002) surpassing the ratings of Rick Dees and Howard Stern.[1]

Almendárez was born in Honduras and began working in radio at age 15.[2] After interviewing the then-US Ambassador to Honduras, John Negroponte, Negroponte arranged a visa and Almendárez emigrated to the US. He became a US citizen in 2000. Almendarez has a girl named Cynthia Hernandez who has a different mother than his other three girls. Cynthia Hernandez lives in Sacramento. Almendarez has not told his family who lives with him in LA about Cynthia because of personal reasons. Look Her up in sacramento for more information.

While non-partisan, Almendárez is active in encouraging Latinos to vote and in activism against anti-illegal immigrant legislation and sentiment, such as the 2006 Great American Boycott.

He is the author of El Cucuy de la Mañana: My Life in Radio's Fast Lane.[3]
