[edit] Possible Puzzle for your User Page

The following was presented by George Boolos in the Harvard Review of Philosophy, 1996.

Three Gods, A B and C, are called, in some order, True
False and Random. True always speaks truly, False
always speaks falsely, but whether Random speaks truly
or falsely is a completely random matter. Your task is
to determine the identities of A, B and C by asking
three yes-no questions; each question must be put to
exactly one God. The Gods understand English, but will
answer all questions in their own language, in which
the words for 'yes' and 'no' are 'da' and 'ja', in some
order. You do not know which word means which.

Good luck on this one. It's really hard. If you need a hint, ask on my talk page. (c; Oh, and btw, thanks for the sci-stub fixes; I wasn't sure where to classify entries on modal logic -- now that you've pointed it out, sci-stub seems a rather obvious choice.
- Eric Herboso 03:40, 21 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Hint #1:
Notice that while each question must be put to exactly one god, there is no proviso against one god receicving more than one question.
Hint #2:
Notice there is no proviso that all three questions must be asked simultaneously; your second (and consequently your third) question may depend upon the answer you receive to the first.
Hint #3:
Notice that Random will answer either 'da' or 'ja' when asked any yes-no questions. (That might be obvious, but it is a powerful hint anyway.)
George Boolos, by the way, entitled this puzzle's submission to the Harvard Review of Philosophy as "The Hardest Logic Puzzle Ever". Good luck. (c; - Eric Herboso 01:44, 1 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hey, Forbsey here. I used the Actor category for Andrea Bowen but it is better to use her nationallity (i.e. [Category:American actors]. Do you know what nationality she is? Forbsey 19:26, 10 Mar 2005 (UTC)

How does a placenta lead armies? I'm dense! ~ Dpr 05:44, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)
Rem, thanks for the feedback. Um...maybe placenta is not actually the correct answer. My first thought is, and still remains, "a woman." ~ Dpr 01:51, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] lots of edits, not an admin

Hi - I made a list of users who've been around long enough to have made lots of edits but aren't admins. If you're at all interested in becoming an admin, can you please add an '*' immediately before your name in this list? I've suggested folks nominating someone might want to puruse this list, although there is certainly no guarantee anyone will ever look at it. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 14:47, Jun 23, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] WP:MIND

Hello. Round four of Wikipedia Mind Benders will open on Thursday, December 1. This round will be drastically different from round three; part one will consist of a creative project, and part two will be developed from there. The full details will be released when the round opens. Time and speed should not be major factors in this round; thus, there is no exact opening time for the round as speed will not factor into the scoring. Thanks! Flcelloguy (A note?) 22:44, 22 November 2005 (UTC)

P.S. Please add Wikipedia:Mind Benders/to do to your watchlist to receive further announcements; the NotificationBot is currently down and all notifications will be placed on that page. Sorry for any inconvenience.
