Remi Chandran

Remi Chandran is an environmental policy researcher currently associated with the United Nations University International Institute for Software Technology and works on issues relating to United Nations Conventions and civil society participation.He holds a postgraduate degree from University College Dublin and was part of the Forest Ecosystem Research Group (FERG). After completing his studies, he returned to India to work with the government and was involved mainly with projects dealing with policy issues related to environment and Agriculture. Mr. Chandran joined the United Nations University in 2003 and was involved in development and management of various projects. Having a special interest on environmental governance and sustainable development and, with specific focus on the emerging economies in Asia and its impact on biodiversity, Mr. Chandran developed the GIS based environmental governance model, Wildlife Enforcement Monitoring System (WEMS), with the support of Asian Conservation Alliance, a network of Asian NGO's based in Tokyo. Mr. Chandran is also the recipient of the Irish government fellowship.
