They are important historical events in African history. Some were part of the Cold war, and all of them shaped world history.
- Notes
The following articles are already included in Version 0.7: Algerian Civil War — Battle of Cannae — Darfur conflict — Lord's Resistance Army — Second Congo War — Yom Kippur War

- One persistent problem we have is that many African topics - even important ones - have only Start-Class articles. We normally try only to include Starts where the topic is pretty important, or if needed to complete a closed set; however, we are definitely weak in this subject area. This would be my selection:
- List of conflicts in Africa (lists are always useful for navigation offline)
- Anglo-Zulu War (B-class) (recently demoted to start due to lack of refs)
- Angolan Civil War (Start/B)
- Chadian-Libyan conflict (B-Class)
- Chadian-Sudanese conflict (B-class)
- Congo Crisis (B-class)
- Eritrean-Ethiopian War(B-class, High importance)
- Eritrean War of Independence (B-class)
- First Matabele War (B-Class)
- Khoikhoi-Dutch Wars (weak B-class)
- Mahdist War (Start)(looks close to B)
- Ogaden War (B-class)
- Second Boer War (GA)
- Second Italo-Abyssinian War (B-class, High importance)
- Second Matabele War (B-Class)
- South African Border War (B-Class)
- Suez Crisis (nice B)
- releasable Wandalstouring 17:52, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
I'd also like to propose adding the following
- Military history of Africa - good Start class, would provide much needed context for the above
- North African campaign - (B-Class) - an important theatre in WW2, yet missing in our selection
- Western Desert Campaign (B-Class) - key part of above
If it's possible to improve Rhodesian Bush War a little with some refs, and resolve the POV dispute, that would be a useful article to include as well. Walkerma 02:11, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- To the list you made, al least some of these should be added, as they regard some of the most important and bloody African conflicts, some of which are ongoing:
- Algerian War (B; one of the most important in Africa's history)
- Algerian Civil War (FA)
- Darfur conflict (GA)
- Ethiopian Civil War (Stub; important)
- Ethiopian-Somali conflict (unassessed)
- First Congo War (Start)
- First Liberian Civil War (Start; key post-cold war conflict)
- First Sudanese Civil War (B)
- Mozambican War of Independence (FA)
- Ivorian Civil War (Start)
- Mau Mau Uprising (B)
- Nigerian Civil War (B; also important)
- Portuguese Colonial War (B; important)
- Rwandan Genocide (Start; obviously important)
- Second Congo War (B)
- Second Liberian Civil War (Start)
- Second Sudanese Civil War (B)
- Shifta War (unassessed, but good stuff IMO)
- Sierra Leone Civil War (Start, but not actually quite good; important)
- Somali Civil War (Start; important)
- War in Somalia (2006–present) (B; the most western-spoken of African conflict)
- Toyota War (GA)
- What do you think?--Aldux 17:34, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- I don't have time to look over all these right now, but these look like a very good set to add. We already have Darfur conflict, Algerian Civil War and Second Congo War carried over from V0.5. I think this combination will be excellent - thanks! What do others think? Walkerma 17:50, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
- I haven't looked at the contents pages of versions .5 or .6. This is "Wars of Africa" being considered here. I would think that various military-related articles from the excellent Apartheid and History of Uganda series would be included in them. In any event, South African Border War is part of the Apartheid series, which provides infobox links to Sharpeville Massacre, Soweto Uprising and many more military articles which have to do with what was nearly a civil war. As far as South African Border War is concerned, it is listed on this page as "B-Class" and I know from tangential reading that there is a lot that was going on during the years leading up to 1989, which is the end date of the time covered by the article; I think that the change from something of a traditional white society to a very integrated high-tech era white society in RSA is an ongoing event and as such is developing on the Wikipedia as it unfolds; I mention this here because I am sure excellent work will be done on the pre and post 1989-1992 eras as integration continues. And, I am interested in this topic but unfortunately at this time, sitting here in New England, I feel I don't really have the chops to seriously update and write in time for the next release version. --McTrixie/Mr Accountable 19:28, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

I've not been involved in the release versions so am not sure about the limitations of the selection. Great Lakes refugee crisis (B) was created as a bridge between Rwandan Genocide and First Congo War. Another important article in recent Congolese conflicts is Banyamulenge (B). I had intended Rwandan Civil War (Start) to be an umbrella article for much of these, but the edit warring grew too annoying and the article is a mess. If one wanted at least some coverage of Uganda-Tanzania War and Ugandan Bush War, I would recommend the biography Yoweri Museveni (FA). - BanyanTree 23:27, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
- Quick comment to address the above - we recently agreed that the V0.7 release will be around 30,000 articles. That sounds a lot, and it does mean we can include most of the above, but there is still some limit based on importance - Mauritania-Senegal Border War would perhaps lie outside the scope of the release, for example. Walkerma 03:28, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. I suggest we focus of a dozen of articles (main wars and conflicts in Africa) and enhance them. -- FayssalF - Wiki me up® 18:19, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm proposing to add this first batch (ONLY the articles in bold), then afterwards I'll lay out the other suggestions (such as Aldux's) so we can discuss them separately. Please make any objections known soon before they are included. Where the "jury was divided" I'll list the article again later for further discussion. Thanks for some excellent feedback.
